Tbe cards of a number of candidates for tbe im portant office of school clerk for this district, No. 24, (who is also district treasurer), appear in this paper. It is understood that Gus Strang will be a candidate for re-election. The present clerk will not run again. Mr. Simpson is not afraid of defeat, if be should run, but believes it is his time to retire from this ottlce. His report to the voters of tbe district will be published before tbe annual meeting and will speak for itself. Goino. A former Salem business man writes from Pertland: "I no tice with great pleasure the success of the agitation for a street-width viaduct at South Mill creek and Commercial street. A few jumps like that will take Salem a long way ahead." It is not yet a complete success, but progress is being made. The Journal has done its part in arousing public sentiment, that it is the unanimous wish of the community to have it built. A South Boom. The electric railway extension south is causing considerable excitement in that part of the city. People afoot and with rigs are scouring nil over that region looking at lots, selecting homesitea, considering locations for investment and projecting new ad ditions. What helps on part of tbe city helps on all and the impulse given by an extension of tbe street car system in any direction is felt by the whole city. m Trains Change Time. After Wednesday the Albany local will go north at 0:30. and the Roseburg will go south at 11:20, or half an hour later than at present. Progressive.
