NEWHER0 ITEMS. Two new brick buildings are near Ing completion which add mate rially to the confidence iu the sub stantial growth of our place. Our city election yesterday resulted in a good majority for men who will maintain tho reputation of our town for temperanco and morality, which you know is the first concern of all good government. " Tho holiday festivities, with their merry making nnd good cheer are at last ended, and The Friends' Pa cific academy has resumed solid work with the addition of two or three new students, Our Sabbath school work here constitutes a good -guarantee for the moral and religi jus character of the town. There are four of these, viz: Friends, Evangelical, Presbyterian and Free Methodist. Yes and the Seventh day folks have one also, I believe. A series of revival meetings wan opened at Friends chapel on Christ mas day, aud have beeu and still are tho great central interest. They are conducted by Rev. J. II. Douglass, evangelist recently from Iowa. He was assisted part of the time by Rey. Mnrion George, of Salem. Tho church is revived. Many new con versions are reported and Christians of every denomination are strength ened and encouraged. These revi vals are conducted on a Hue purely evangelical and uusectariau, aud I bespeak for Brother Douglass a great work at Salem, as he is to begin work there iu the near future. Probate Court.
