The professor himself bore tho main parts by the "Farmer" with great gusto and spirit, aud was well sustained by tho members of tho university philharmonic so clety. It Is a great credit and ad vantage of this school that It allow students so many privileges for tak ing part In such ennobling produc tions, and tho musical department ment tends to attach all the students to tho Institution and at tho samo time aflordlng no small degree of musical culture. The cantata Is a pleasing ono aud holds tho interest throughout, nil tho attendant scenes of the hay making season aud llfoou tho farm In tho summer tlnio being repro duced. The presentation moved of! ru pldly , and sho wed great flex I bi 1 1 ty us well as splendid range of voices. Trof. Parvln rendered the recitative "How Pleasant are thoso Cheerful Words" very well. Each word was clear and thesentlmcnt was beauti fully expressed. Mr. EpIeyV wasp had n perfectly natural buzz aud they got their work In on the green young daudy he so effectively presented. The choruses by the "Firemen" "Como Follow While Gaily we Hake up tho Hay," "A Bhowcr" and "Now Creaks the Heavy Wagon" were all good. The nolo parts of Misses Harris, Shagcr, Combs aud Wilbur were excellent. Chorus, "Softly tho. Twilight Fades" was renderd with grand power and beautiful expression. It Is to bo hoped so lnuoecnt and refining an evening's entertainment may again soon bo given our people. Few persons know tho hard work and training required to produce such a piece and Prof. Parvln and his Btudeiits desire great credit for their efforts. AnOnkoo Coi.t First.
