On the adjournment last week, it was given oulthnt the club would meet on the next Friday at thu residence ol State Treasurer Webb. Tins was owing to the fact Mint Dr. Itlch ardson's birthday occurred on che 15th of November and tho ar rangements hud previously been secretly made to surprise the doctor. Accordingly, lust evening, about G o'cloci; lie received a message lrom Secretary Mcl5ride. asking his im mediate presence on important busi ness. Of course he was detained long enough for all the members of the club to gather at his house, and for tho completion of tho arrangements necessary for a pleasant surprise on his return homo. When he came, thu rooms wete lighted, and every thing presented a pleasing aiid very inviting appearance. Alter drive-whist had been enjoyed about an hour, notice was given that Dm. Drown Scqunru and Longfoot, of Chicago, desired to make a presentation of some rare and costly gifts, and tiio party was arranged in a half-circle in tno two parlors. Air. J. U. Wright Ilrst distributed the prizes for tlie card-playing, consisting of a Juniplngjaek to Mr. E. M. Walto as booby prize, and a sheep (tin one, of course) to Airs. J. M. ltosonburg. The first prizes to tho most success ful players were awarded to Airs. Judge Thayer, a table call-boll, and to Mr. II. W. Cottle, a small harp. After the presentation of tliesj awards, Dr. Jirown-Sequard was In troduced to tho audience, and In a neat and appropriate speech pre sented Dr. Itlehardsou a large and attractive medicine chest, tilled with valuable medicines for all the ills of llesh. Thu manufacture of tho chest and the arrangement of Its contents created a great deal of mer riment, and tho burlesque gift was appreciated by none more than Dr. Jtichardson. Dr. Longfoot then presented the Doctor, on behalf of his wile, a beaut fill nnr of snee tacles, with chain, pin and all neces sary appertenanees. A bountiful and most excellent lunch was served In honor of tho Doctor, which was greatly enjoyed by the club nnd invited guests.
