Great excitement prevails at Pocatcllo, Idaho, on account of tho closing of all business on the reservation by or der of tho Indian agent, acting uudcr Instructions from Washington. Special notices are being posted on all tho business houses, declaring them closed and tho buildings erect ed sluce September 1, 1888, subject to confiscation, thereby rendering 2000 people homeless. The determi nation of the citizens to prevent the Indian police from destroying their property is very manifest. Strenu ous efforts are being mado to settle the difficulty, and if that is not ac complished there is fear of trouble. Tno above movement was gotten up no doubt by speculators who want to make a big scare and buy up the property, as soon as they get hold of what they want tho tltles.etc. will bo settled and Pocatello will bo all right. Ed. This Wan In Indiana. Evansville, Feb. 25. Several Mormon missionaries have been proselyting some time past in this sectiou of tiio country. Two of them, in Dubois county, have been claiming to perform miracles, hut failed to do so. Thoy were told by a number of citizens to leave tho county, but refused. Friday, wliilo thoy were exhorting, several masked men seized them, stripped and tied them to trees, and gave them fifty lashes each on tho bare back. They were told they would be left to them selves until morning, but would bo killed if found in tho county Satur day. They disappeared. Albany's Street Hallway. Aliiany, Or., Feb. 20. The ques tion of granting the franchise to tho company recently organized in this city for the purposo of building a street car line, will come up for consideration at tho meeting of tho. city council; to-night, as an ordi nance granting the proposed franchise- was Introduced at the last meeting and referred to the commit tee on ordiiiaccs with instructions to report at tho next regular meeting. Miss Allco Savage of near Clymer has gono to Piincville, where she has engaged a school for tho summer. Tho citizens of this placo will hold a meeting to-night in regard to building a wing on tho south sldo of the college. Washington's birthday was duly celebrated at tho college chapel. Tho exeicises consisted of recita tions, essays, etc., interspersed with music by tho band and Prof. Powell's orchestra. Prof. Campbell also gave a short, but Interesting review of our honored patriot's life. Movements of Salem People.
