Over $5,000,000 was added to the savings of depositors, now number ing approximately 700,000. Scores of email postal banks took 'In more money than they had accum ulated In any one year. Foreign born depositors were especially active and their deposits ran larger than usual. Upwards of 80 per cent of the $121,000,000 on deposit March 1st Is owned by this class. Postal station II or New York, located on the East Hide, made a gain In February of $115,000. Tills station alone has $4,000,000 on deposit, and Is out ranked only by New York, city, Brook lyn nnd Chicago. Its depositors are largely foreign born. Newark, N. J Seattle, Wash., and Kansas City, Mo., Jumped Into the million dollar class of postal savings depository offices during the month. Increasing the number In this class to sixteen: New York, Brooklyn, Chi cbko, Detroit, Boston, Pittsburg, Port land (Ore.), PhlladelphlarCleveland, Milwaukee, Butte, San Francisco, St. J -on Is, Newark, Seattle and Kansas City. Portland showed a gain of $57,402, among twenty-two cities which had gains of $33,000 for tho month. The February Increase In deposits was general throughout tho country, but some remarkable facts are dis closed by .i tarcful analysis of tho fig ures. For instance, the extremo northwestern nnd tho extreme south eastern Ktates showed tho largest per centages of gain for the month Washington, IK per cent, and Florida 11 per tent. Other states reporting particularly big gains woro South Carolina, 10 per cent; Idaho, 9 per rent; Michigan, 9 per cent; Indiana, 8 per rent.
