GO . SO KLAMATH FALLS. SATURDAY, JULY 31. 1909. FOVM 8KKLKTON WEED. July 29. A complete hu man skeleton wss found yestcrda) In the woods two miles catt ot this place. There was no flcih on the bonea. The skull was fifty feet from the main part of the skeleton. " A complete outfit of clothing was near tho skeleton. The character of the raiment Indicated that the man was well dressed. Nothing was found In tho pockets by which the dead could be Identified. Wads of green paper were found In one ot the Test pockets. Dr. Legge, who made the examination, thinks these wads were rolls ot greenbacks. Ho was afraid to try to unroll them lest he destroy the'raluable paper. They will be sent to the subtrcasury In San Francisco, where It Is expected some expert will be able to unroll the green rolls and determine the value of the greenbacks. If such the paper proves to be. IXllWTV NKWH (Merrill Record.) Dr. Alex. Patterson arrived home from San Francisco last Friday night, having left his wife and children at the home ot Mrs. Patterson's mother In that city. Mrs. Patterson will re main with her mother for some time longer before returning home, as the latter lady Is quite seriously 111 and requires tbe loving care and atten tion ot her daughter. Aa the stage from Klamath Falls to Merrill was nearlng Wbltelake poatoBce to-day the doubletree broke, causing the team to run away. The tongue fell from the neckyoke and the driver, holding on to the Unea, waa pulled from the vehicle and alone the ground Into tbe sage brush, receiving severe cuts before he was forced to let go. The horses then ran through a barb-wire fence, one ot them being badly Injured. The two passengers on the stage were not hurt. After catching the horses the drhcr finished his trip to this cltj with them, but tho one cut with the wire. It Is thought, will die. . George Wilson received his alfalfa menl machinery the first of tho week and he ground out the first lot of al falfa In the valley on Monday after noon. The machine his a ten horse power engine with an upright boiler and the total weight ot the paraphcr nalla Is a Utile less than threo tons, yet the little giant has the capacity of turulng flte Ions of alfalfa per day Into a meal that Is said to be much more economical In feeding than the hay, the loss being onl) 1 per cent to 10 per cent for the unground hay. The meal only occupies a very small space. It being possible to put 100 pounds Into an ordinary grain sack under pressure. The business of making this meal has grown to great proportions In some parte ot the roast, and It Is now being shipped to all parts of the country. People liv ing In towns, especially, buy It more readily than they do baled hay on account of the much less space It oc cupies and the greater saving In feed ing It. It Is a safe prediction that Mr. Wilson's venture will prove a success, and that this' Is but the first of many such machines that will be Installed In the alfalfa belt. THE WAY THEY IHI IT AT UlUNTS I'AHH The tale of tho man with the 'salted" mine Is as old as the illncov cry ot gold, but It took a U rants Pass man to dope out the real way of "salting" a lue)nrd so as to make It sell readily to the Eastern men who are flocking Into Oregon In search of ImrstmcnU. Illi plan Is said to hate worked splendidly until one of the Investors Inivstlgnlvd. The real estate man "salted" his vlnenrd by lsltltig his neighbor' patch and plrklng therefrom a largo number of grape clusters. These he ntlnrt.ed to tie ginpo lnr by moan of Una wire. Tie", for the customer who was driven p-nt the land, but nl wajs nt uch n tlmo as It was nccon sary to rrturn In town In n hurry Eterthlng workel nil right until one of the men Inwatlgalcd. Then the "sailer" was forced to ring off. Anone going East within the next two weeks will pleaso advlso this office. Last year $56,000,000 waa spent by tbe railroads of tbe United States for crosstles. The average price of the ties was 50 cents each. Only six per cent of the ties were used by electric railroads. Forty-three per cent of tbe ties were of oak and nine teen per cent of yellow pine. Owing to the growing scarcity of suitable timber, other woods are being used after treatment with various pre servatives, and It has been found, that these treated woods outlast the more expensive untreated oak ties. yiHHHMMUMHHMHMtMHMIHDMmmMW I !
