Where thu watur supply Is limited, soKebrush mantles thu valleys with Cray. In tho marshlands aro many species of rushes, sedges and tules. Thu flora of tho basin In far above thu avoruge In variety, for here meet noitherii and southern plants, oddly io-ii nlnglliiK, The land is rich In wild ilumn, choke-cherries, huckle borrics, wild goosoborrlei, wild cur rants, and other economic plants. There are many species of nutritive nallvu grasses ; Indeed, tho basin has long buun u stocknf&n's summer par adise. Many of thu smaller valleys are simply largu meadows, i Tho lower bills surrounding tho basin aro covered with rango grasses, and scattered parks of Juniper, moun tain mahogany and other arid land shrulM. Tho higher lands aro cov ered with regal forests of red fir, sugur and yellow pine, and cedar. In ubundancu may bo 'grown tho r.orcals (except corn), alfalfa, var ious nutritious grasses, root crops, potnloen, asparagus, celery, all hardy fruits, cg'jtables and berries. Alfalfa, which has created more wealthy farmers lu tbe Irrigated West than any other farm product, may bu grown to perfection. Two (and In favored sections "rco) crops uro cut each yeur, nud after the last harvest ihe vigorous growths permit of pasturugu for niock. Tho Klamath section will rival oaaturu Washington and Oregon In wheat production, both lniuallty and quantity. Land well cultivated and with plenty of water ylolds fifty bush els of wheal to tho acre, whllo dry farming secures from twelve to twen ty bushels. Tho average, under fav orable water conditions, should bo thirty-live bushels to tbo aero. Oats yield per acre, with dry farm ing, from twenty-flvo to thirty bush ols; on Irrigated land, sixty bushels; and with exceptionally favorable con ditions, almost a hundred. Barley, yields, on dry land, twenty-flvo bush els per aero, which Is always doubled and often trebled on properly Irri gated land. K)o also grows well, and peculiarly enough Is often dry farmed as a hay or roughage crop for stock. Applo raising will prove a profit able occupation In tbe uplands. Pears, plums, prunes and cherries do well. whllo In favored location moat, ta ccUont peaches may ba raised j bat caro' must ho- taken by planting lat blooralng, hardy varieties, of all thtM fruits, bocauso of laio frosts. N Tho ovldoncu of what small fruits will do, is found In tho wealth ofiwlld berries. All the berries may be grown to great advantage as soom as a market becomes' available. Tho richness of tke'soll' aao,.Ue case with which It Is worked tsake tbe Klamath section a rast potential garden. Hero, with Irrigation, Inten sive cultivation will bo widely frae tlced. The careful cultlvatlonthat makes land In sections of Southern California, tho San .Joaquin, Sacra mento, Hanta Clara, Fajaro, 'Arroyo Oraudo and other California valleys worth hundreds of dollars' per acre will produce the same result here. The Klamath Basin Is already a great native pasture-land, and when aro added alfalfa, clbl4r,.efe,.lt will bo an unexcelled dairy country. At presont cattle and sneep, occupy' the Holds. There are many Heref ords and some Shortbornt, ,'Davaaa and Oalloways. But with tlCjNsjajaTg of easy transportation will clQfrUte day of tho more profitable flRpN" the day of the HbUUtnTsKtfeJsay.
