Dealers in REAL ESTATE Fruit and Farm Lands DR. DON NICKELSEN WRITES OF RUSSIA An American in Rufsia possessing 30 cents is made to feel like a million aire, according to Dr. Donald Nickel sen, son of Senator and Mrs. J. K. Nickelsen. who is now tn the land or bolsheviks engaged with the American Red Cross Association. Writing from Moscow of his experience, Dr. Nickel sen says : "Just returned from the market where I bought a stove for use on my trip south. It cost 2,500,000 rubles. or about $1.60. Also got a pair of bi noculars, for which I paid 3,000,000. "Last night we went to a vaudeville show. It was very good, although everything was in Russian and seemed like a movy to us. Thence we went to a cabaret, where they gave an excel lent singing and dancing program. Our dinner bill was 82,000,000 rubles for the six of as. It seems like a great deal, especially when one consid ers that it would have represented $16,000,000 before the crash. We got a drosky (carriage) to transport us home, as the car service is no good, and that cost us 10.000,000 rubles. ' Our visit to Riga was interesting. as it is just outside Soviet Russia. It is the capital of Latavia. Tbey are having very hard times there. A man may make z.uuu to 4,uuu rubles per month, but a good meal costs 200, a shirt, 600 and a collar, 65. Many of the pretty buildings show the result of the German invasion and the bolshevik occupation. Residents told us that they were relieved of everything worth having and they were nearly starved to death. None of the elevators will run, as all motors were removed. "Sunday we went to the Ballet. which is the talk of Europe. The music and dancing were certainly won derful. The theatre is very beautiful. "Everywhere one looks there are dozens of soldiers. I understand the Reds have four to five million men. Trotsky and Lenine live in the Grem lin, which is surrounded by a high wall. The property comprises about 60 acres in the heart of the city. At the Ballet is a large central box that was formerly reserved for the Czar, but now it is the especial box of Trotsky. "After our visit to the theatre we went to Maxines, a noted cabaret. We had an evening dinner and enjoyed a fine program of music and dancing. ' I have not been definitely assigned but will probably go to Orenburg or Karkoff. The former place is about 900 miles east in the Ural mountains, not a pleasant place of residence at the present time. Karkoff, capital of the Ukraine, is down south near the Black Sea. 'We are supplied with automobiles and each American doctor is given the following personnel : A pharmacist, a stenographer, a native doctor and two flunkies, one of whom can handle the car." TIPS BEAM AT OVER 100 FIRST TIME IN YEARS Will Never Be Without Tanlac Again, Declares Little S. F. WomanTells Of Remarkable Recovery "I will never be without Tanlac, even if it takes my last dollar to buy it," said Mrs. Georgiana Halfpenny, 262 Myrtle St.. San Francisco, Calif. "Five years ago I struck my side a blow that kept me in the hospital for weeks and put me in a terribly weak. nervous and run-down condition. I had no appetite, my digestion was so poor I would have terrible cramping pains in my stomach, and I would bloat up so that my heart palpitated like it would jump out of my body. I was dreadfully constipated, bad splitting headaches, and my back seemed like it would break in two. "But Tanlae has put an end to all my troubles, I've gained sixteen pounds too, and its the first time in years I've weighed over a hundred. I can never praise Tanlac enough for the splendid healMi it has given me." Tanlac is sold by all good druggiete. BBS LUMBER MARKET DECLARED ACTIVE 8. A. Every Saturday Leaves Farkdale at 6 p. m. (By Nelson Emry) Few people not actively engaged in the lumber business realize the extent to which business has picked up with the saw mills of the state. California ia setting a fast pace in building and is heavy buyer of Oregon lumber. Re tail yards in the middle west are fore seeing the revival of building in their sections and are stocking their yards with new lumber, filling in broken stocks and in general getting ready for a heavy business. The railroads have a 11 adopted extensive building and re placement programs and have placed large orders with Oregon mills. The result is that every mill now operating is loaded with orders and .it is practically impossible to place an order for a mixed car for immediate delivery with any of the Portland mills. Although we keep the wires hot in an effotr to get our cars loaded promptly, we are nevertheless continu ally harassed by delayed shipments. Lumber is today distinctly hard to get This condition will probably become more aggravated as the season ad vances and it is almost a certainty that it will lead to early increases in mill prices. Builders would do well to anticipate their needs as much as pos sible as it is impossible with mill con ditions as they are and with the pres ent amount of material going into the Hood River valley, to keep stocks up on all items. We are doing our best to give service to Hood River builders but under present conditions this is not always easy. Local Priests Attend Veteran's Funeral Rev.
