1 HOOD RIVER GLACIER, TIII'RSDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1021 A Good "Buy" Word When you buy a pair of shoes, it is a1 good idea to look for more than style and appearance. Good looks hide a lot of weaknesses. Good ser vice means more to yon than tem porary good looks, Real quality is found only beneath the service. There is one sure way of telling quality look at the stamp on the heel. In men's and boy's work and dress shoes there is no surer guide than the "Star" stamped on the heel. Make "Star Brand" your "buy" word and avoid disappointment. CZ30JZZ5 All Leather Shoes CZ30EZD J. This fund will amount to a million dollars, will be raised by small voluntary subscriptions throughout the country, and is estab lished to honor the national and inter national services of Woodrow Wiison who today is a stricken soldier of the world war. This movement is non partisan, and the Koverr.or of Orgon and the mayor of Portland are honor ary rhairmen of the state committee. Mr. Wilson will receive no part of these funds, but the income will be used at the discretion of a nationally appointed committee in awards to groups or individuals that in a speci fied period have rendered meritorious service to democracy, liberal thought, public welfare, and peace through justice. Our country's quota is but $100 and it would seem that that amount would be speedily raised. 1 ask that all who favor this movement and desire to par ticipate will please send their contri bution! in to me. George K. Wilbur. COLUMBIA GORGE TO . SERVE DINNER TODAY NOW PICTURE OF PERFECT HEALTH Happy Seattle Mother Tells of Child's Recovery (iives Tanlac Full Credit The Columbia (Jorge hotel will re main open all winter, according to an nouncement made by Manager Henry Thiele. Up to this time definite an nouncement as to whether the hostelry would be open or closed had not been made. Mr. Thiele will hold open house and serve special dinners on all winter hol iday occasions. A special dinner will be served to day in celebration of Thanksgiving. It is expected that a large number of Hood River valley folk, augmented by hundreds of Portland motorists, in case weather conditions are conducive to a spin over the Columbia River Ilii way, will visit the hostelry for Thanks giving dinner." Mr. Thiele in today's paper runs a special Thanksgiving advertisement. It is a gem for Thanksgiving thought. It is recommended that Hood River valley folk, whether they contemplate going to the Columbia Gorge for din ner or not, read Mr. Thiele's adver tisement. Apple Market a Little Better Apple shippers here say that the market is beginning to show a little stiffening, although no material bet terment insofar as prices are concerned is expected before about February 1, when the huge quantities of early va rieties of apples that have been rolled to eastern storage have been cleaned UP- , "The apple market is getting a little better in this way," says P. F. Clark. "There has been a good movement of rruit, although the price shows no in crease. For some time no apples have been moving. " "I think the apple market is on the upgrade," says Walter Woolpert, al though I do not look for any material improvement for about two months." Golf Enthusiasts Enjoy Sandbar Golf enthusiasts have begun to fre quent the huge sandbar on which a course has been improvised for winter playing. Without links, except for the huge sandbar, local golfers are unable to enjoy their sport locally because the Columbia River freshets usually en tirely inundate the bar. The stream is now at low stage, and the golfers may tee olf in any direction. The sandbar, it is declared, forms an excellent links. The valley has a num ber of ardent golf devotees, and the number is constant ly growing. While much talk has been heard over inaug urating a movement for a golf and country club nothing definite has ever been done. .Stni. 'Motor. Owing to limited ppa:e !) Thompson, 724 Tenth Ave., Seattle. Wash. "Edna was taken down just before last Christmas with pneumonia, and after being down ten weeks she was able to be up a little, but was so thin and pale and looked so worn out it made my heart ache to look at her. She had no appetite and what little she ate seemed to do her about as much harm as good. She complained a great deal of heartburn and pains in the chest an'i her back so bad she never knew a comfortable moment. 1 was very much worried about her as the days drnjged on and she didn't get her strength hack. "it certainly was a blessing that I began to give her Tanlac when I did. Her appetite picked right up and soon her stomach was in perfect condition. She gained ten pounds in weight and I could sic that she was taking on new strength and energy with every dose. She is the picture of perfect health to day, just as happy as can be and of course is enthusiastic about Tanlac. I want every mother to know about this wonderful medicine for 1 don't believe its equal has ever been made for build ing up children who are weak and sickly." lanlac is sold in Hood River by the Kresse Drug Co.
