Jones, sons of the lute Mordeeai Jones, who developed a ft of Whito Salmon land, have returned from their home in Ireland to look after the piuce. Another brother is expected soon, and I. M. Jones, who visited here last week, savs his mother may return to America. The Irish es tate of the faniilv is at Clifton Eodife. County Meath. distant from Dublin 3G miles. Young Mr. Jonea hesitates in mak ing anv nredictions as to when the Irish troubles will end. He declares that there are too manv nntrles. due from the numerous opinions of Irish groups, for one to reach definite con clusions. Mr. Jones, however, believes that a thorough drubbing of the Sinn Fein element will at least alleviate the Irish upheaval. He thinks the Sinn Feiners in the minority, but because of their program of terrorism in southern Ireland they have even forced neutral groups to do their biddings. The late Mordecai Jones was a famed big game hunter. His lodge at the Klickitat county home was renowned throughout the northwest lf years ago. All the three brothers are veterans of the great war. One served in Pales tine campaign and another was at Salonika. Oregon Growers Want Tariff Unless the Oregon representatives in Congress succeed in including a tariff on cherries and walnuts in the new tariff bill now before Congress, the cherry and English walnut growers of the northwest are in for several bad seasons. Italy is importing white cherries and selling them in New York City at seven cents a pound in brine. To com pete with this figure, Oregon growers would receive about three cents a nound for their best cherries. China and Japan are importing Eng lish walnuts, known as the Manehu rian, to sell wholesale at seven cents a nound. While thev are 01 heavy shell dark meat and often wormy, yet the average buyer doesn't know the differ ence between the fine llavored meat of the Oregon walnut and that of the Munchurian. California interests have already se cured in the proposed tariff bill, a duty on lemons, and the south has protected its peanut industry by having inserted in the bill a tariff on peanuts. It is now up to the Oregon members of Contrress to prevent the disaster Hint threatens the cherry and English walnut industry of the state. Japanese Catches the Worms Leroy Childs at last Thursday's small fruits meclinir, told of an IMI dent typical of the industry of Japan ese as small fruits framers. A Japan eie strawberry grower had sought ad vice of Mr. Childs on ritlding his plot of cut worms. 1 he station man had little comfort in his suggestions. The Japanese, however by observation, fi nally learned that the pest fed at night on his plants. He and hi" family there upon took up a nightly vigil in the strawberry field. Mr. I hilds says the JapUMM caught cutworms by the titiHrt-iarful. His scheme was success ful. "Every few days I had awful sick headaches and most of the time there was a mean taste in my mouth.
