Brown Considerable difreie ie in the man agement of cane fruits has taken (dace during the pint few years. I'robably no district has done more to demon strate different systems than the I'uv allup valley growers. Formerly the Milicv was to grow raspberries and blackberries in hills, four to live feet apart. When the new canes were four feat high they were hiaded so as to throw nut laterals. Now, h:iwever, they have found it more piactical not to prune at all during the growing sea son but to permit the canes to grow as tall as possible. Where this was done, planting was about three feet apart in the row. During winter the side shoots are trimmed off, leaving a long whip shaped cane. These canes are trained to a wire or permitted to lie over a hup pale. This ulan gives a much loafer harvesting season, since the earliest and consequently the highest priced berries are borne on the ends of these long canes. It has been esti BWted that where the grower removes ' the top of his bush berries he O cut ting off at least 25 iter cent of (he crop i and by so doing causes his harvest to . ripen at nearly one time instead of over a much longer period.
