The council also ac cepted a bid from Chelgren Bros, for an clRfUeen-lnch sewor on Portland avenue," The Clark-Henery com pany's bids for 14000 twenty-year bonds ami $3200 ten-year bonds at G per cent were ordered accepted. A petition from James Campbell for adjustment of water rates was ordered referred to .the proper com mittee. Mr. Campbell was one of those who laid a pipe from the south end of Oakdale to King's highway. Ho now states that city users con sumo all the water except In certain hours of tho day and that he Is forced to store tho liquid In barrels and bath tubs In order to have same. In consideration of this fact, of his In itial expense and of the fact that his rates are higher than city users, he asks a careful Investigation with a view of a reduction. O'Brien says that last Thursday O'Brien wn asked to call for his "time," which he did, collecting nUo the wages due his wife nnd her throe sons, nnd that he likewise took charge of ten dollars that belonged to his wife, nnd started to Merlin for n team to haul the camp outfit back to Grants Pass. The family, left without n dollar, waited patiently for the return of O'Brien, nnd when he fniled to ap pear by Sunday, they other means p.' conveyance to Grants Pass. Mrs. O'Brien found that O'Brien had been nt the home, had packed up nil of his own clothes, as well as having ransacked her own trunks, nnd after taking her gold watch, had departed.
