Although the sen son is from two to three weeks later this year, there is a great amount of feed in the valley and tbo bees arc piling in honey iu great shape. "The cloudy weather this spring has held the season back," states Mr. Mullcr, "but the bees are making up for it now owing to the great amount of feed in tbo valley. We will begin robbing next week but in ordinary seasons wo begin nibbing early in July. I excct 30 tons tf honey this summer." UNABLE TO ME NEW MACHINERY FOR ICE PLANT The Medford Ice- and Sturngv plant has installed and in operation n considerable amount of new ice men ufacturing machinery, among which is another large compressor, for kit ice tanks ami several oilier pieces of ice making machinery. The added machinery, together with Hint for merly in nsc give the plant an ice output of twenty-seven tons every twenty-four hours. The warm weather of the pn-t couple of weeks has kept the com pany's six teams busy from carl; morning until late at uiuht suppl.uit;: the local demand. The company on June 1st had n reserve supply of ice to the amount of UtH) tons on h.ui.l and this has been broken into n num ber of times to meet the demands of Mcdford's imputation. The really busy ice season has not started yet uor will it until the fruit shipping season opens, but Manager Carter does not anticipate any trou ble in meeting the demands wen at that time. PUBLIC MAM ST EFFINS TESTIMONY LOS ANGELES, July 20. There was no s ess lun or tuc narrow inai today and the defense forces occu pied themselves with preparations to follow up the testimony of Lin coln Stiffens, self-admitted moral phihintropist, who has spent more ihiin n day on the witness stand. Steffens' testimony, under cross examination by District Attorney Fredericks covered a n astoundingly wide rango of subjects, extending from ethics to metaphysics. He ad mitted that while he and the defen dant were trying to secure easy tenns for Ihu McXnranrn brothers duriug their trial, both knew they Avcre guilty. Because the men were not intentional murderers and be cause thoir crime was "social, not individual." Steffens said, he was moved to work for them. Darrow, he testified, was actuated above all by his desire to save a human life. After an astonishing declaration that he is "worse than an anarchist a believer in Christianity," Stef fens at the close of the session was asked by Juror Snider if he believes in "direct action" meaning violence iu class strife. After some hesita tion, Steffens replied: "This Los Angeles exjtcricnec went fur to convince me that the golden rule nnd the force of good Will not be sufficient, and that after nil the thing would have to be fought out. But I have not finally come to that conclusion; I wuut to try out thu good will plan first." At the end of Steffens testimony his story remained unshaken under thu hours of attack by the state. This included the declaration that Darrow told him, and no one else, November 23, that hu would consent to a plea of guilty by John MoNa niaru, and that he (Darrow) and the late Judge Cyrus McKutt secured the McNiimunib' consent the follow ing day, three days before the brib ing of Lockwood. While on (ho stand the witness stated that in an effort to secure himself that thu death penalty will not bo inflicted lie visited Judge Wal ter Bordwull presiding in the case. Bordwell, ho testified, gave him this assurance, but u moment later ho admitted the judge mudu no agree ment fo that effect. KOTICti.
