PAGE STX MflDFOUD MAIL TRTBITNE, flrTCDFORD. OKIWON'. MONDAY, JANUARY 15, 1012, PUSS IN NEED OF MEOFORDSPIRIT So Declares H. D. Morton, Attorney, In Urging That Grants Pass Citi zens Get Behind Movement to Put tho Grants Pass & Rogue River Road on Its Feet. II. I). Norton in mi interview in the llognc River Connor urges the ntir.ciiH of Grouts Pass to Ret be hind the Grants Pass & Rogue River railronil, and see it completed. In tho course of his interview Mr. Nor Ion lias tho following to wiv of the "Medford spirit": "The Jledford spirit would hae ennseil that bridge to have been put in nfo condition and preserved, in Ftend of attempting its destruction, and the pnymont of a small amount of tho remaining unpaid installment would have furnished the rcccucr with funds for this purjwse. The Grants Pass spirit permits the re reiver to shift for himself, and pre serve the structure as bct he ran, or let it go to destruction if he can not personally procure fmitls. "I ask you to recall the circum stance, that n few years ago a lit tle railroad was started from Med ford under like conditions. The pro moters were unable to finance it after Having contracted considerable in debtedness. The enterprise hung in suspense for many mouths, in fact years. The people of Mcjlfonl. how ever, did not condemn the enterprise, nor did they try to throw the pro moters into diserpute, but on the oth er hand, they got squarely under thp load with their influence and their money they refused to let it die they kept it alive with their own re sources, and the result now is that the road is on a paying basis, and not only that, it is assured that it will in the near future he n connect ing link with a transcontinental sys tem, putting Medford in iuuncdinle touch with the Hill railroads. Tin much for local spirit and enterprise, "Now tho question is, whether Grants Pas' is going to display the spirit that will pennit a laudable and beneficial enterprise to die for lack of support." THE tLLCTKIO VIOLIN PIANO PLAYER.. Musicians In New York the other day honnl ami saw a machine nhi.vln; three violins at once. Tills Is no canned music, but melody produced on the Instant Although there Hre three violins, lu this slrnnp? coutrlvuuee. the total tone effect practically Is equivalent only to one. as only one string Is played on each Instrument. The silent strings are ued tu keep the tension. The I). A and 12 strings are In constant use. and the result sceiutt to imwtelntis wonder fully like the efforts uf a man of tempera inotit ami forvo. The contrivance Is the Invention of I.udwig Ilupfelt, of Leipzig, Goriunny. who Is snld to have worked eleven years lu developing this latest addition tu the family of mechanical players. The Instrument Is called a violnno. The lower part Is a plauo, and the upper portion the violin attachment, or the phonoltsst tolln. COURT HOUSE NEWS 10 HI 30 1,700 Itcnl ICMnte Transactions. l It.
