Prominent growers In Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana nnd other western states nro planning to In vito tho most rigid Investigation ol the districts, to show there Is m truth In tho rumors that orchards are going back or declining In produc tlvity and value. It appears very .much as If a deep plot woro laid to Injuro tho reputa tion of the Pacific northwest, which now Is Justly famed as tho world's commercial applo district, and also harm other western states. Califor nia, Oregon, Washington and western states generally nro mentioned in tho Washington press report, saying the department of agriculture has de cided to bcKln an Investigation to determine the causo of the deteriora tion of orange, apple and pear or chards. Tho whole thing is a base fabrication from beginning to end. Growers all over tho western coun try aro dotcrmiucd that this wrong to the west be righted without delay. Western orchards aro thriving- and increasing In value yearly and the growers aro prosperous and con tented; tree- pests and other diseases, which never gained a serious foot hold, have been reduced to a mini mum, and in justice they demand that tho truth be told.
