QUAKE CLAIMS JLJJETTLED Practically All Insurance Claims Arising From San Francisco Dis ter Now Paid Total of Hundred and Sixty-three Millions Paid Out. SAN BERNARDINO, Cal.' Aug. lo. Practically nil of the insurance claims uriatng from the earthquake and fire here in 1000 arc now ettled nnd the underwriters' reports today how a total of $103,713,330 paid out. Within the Jnt few days u number of satisfactions of judgments have been filed and the calendar is nearly clean. Further efforts are being made, however, to force the welching com panies to make additional pjiyments. Several companies settled with some of their policyholders on a basis uf 25 cents on the dollar, but have since paid 50 to 7" cent to othcts. Caviar is an antidote, for choiera, according to' an announcement juut tnndo by the Ottoman Bacteriological institute. The discovery indirectly was brought about through a protest against tho exclusion of Russian caviar from Turkish territory for fear of cholera infection. Tho institute experimented with caviar that had been infected with cholera baccilli nnd discovered thnt Iho germs died in, four days. Efforts to discover the germ killing princi ple in the caviar are now being made.
