PAGE SEV3P Look at That Ad That Galls for You Its on This Page t V MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDflORP, OREGON, THURSDAY, arAROH 9, 1911, TABLE WINES HAVE ADVANCED PARIS, Mnreh 8. Since Decern ber of 1910 the prices of ordinary "table wine's" have advanced 20 10 25 per cent. This was done by a sort of "rilnc trust" movement, the merchants nil over the country by coinmOn accord, agreeing to boost oh account of the bad year. Barrels of Bordeaux -which last year bid for 250 francs now Sell for 300 and bottled wine which cost one franc now sells for 1V4 francs. The year of 1910 was one of the worst in the history of France. Oth er years which were daastrous wore those of, 1879, 1880, 1887, 1880, 18D0 and 1895 when the average produc tion was from 24,000,000 to 25,000 000 barels of wine of 22 gallons each. Since then the number of vineyards have been largely incrensed. How ever 1910 yielded only 28,000,000 barrels. The average los is estimat ed by disinterested authorities at 50 per cent, and ranges from 20 per cent" in certain sections to 90 per cent in the champagne country. Only 4 per cent of the nverago crop of champagne being realized, cham pagne dealers hi' the district bought wines from other districts nud 'Jehanipngneized" them. This is what started the chnmpagne riots. These, in turn, called attention to the wine crisis all over France. ' The department of the Mnrac, which "takes in most, of the cham pagno vines, usually yields about 208,000 barrels of wine. In 1910 billy 10,000 barrels wore nettod, or less than sufficient for bubble drink ers in the United States alone. To the" southwest of France, about Bor deaux, thoro is a deficit of 04 por cent. The wiue departments of the Midi (southern Franco) are short 30 per cent. NOTICE. Beginning April 1st, 1911, tho union scale for painters will be $4 per day. On that date the initiation fee into local union, No. C43, Bro therhood of Painters & Decorators of America, will bo raised. ii-The, union meets every Thursday nlgnt at a p. in. in Angle ball. . .',- ' C.
