George McClellon, who is working on his mine on Kanes creek, spent Saturday and Sunday in Gold Hill with his family. George says he has ono of the best quartz propositions in southern Oregon. Our teacher, Prof. Hasleton, spent Saturdny and Sunday at Ettgle Point with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Standley of Medford spent several days here recently as the guest of Mrs. Staudley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ilrown. a sister from the east. It will in all probability be held Friday at Phoenix. LOCAL BOY TO A BIG LEAGUE Eddie Wilkcnson May Sign With Chase for New York Nationals Flattering Contract is Given Young Phsnom May Go East. Eddie Wilkcnson is sought by Hal Chase, manager of the New York Nationals, and will leave soon for the east where ho will be trained for big league ball by the big leauger. Wilkcnson received a very flattering oifer and inasmuch as by the terms oj.' the contract he cannt ho sold or "farmed" out to home bush league he will break into organized baseball from tho top if he .signs. Wilkcnson is well known to the ball fans in this city. Ho has played with the local team several seasons and is known as the fastest short stop in southern Oregon and a heavy hitter. He has been playing ball for tho past two or years years with St. .Maury's near San Francisco where ho exhibited the class making him desirable timber for big leagues. DYNAMITERS OF TIMS WERE HERE Detectives Search Cabin on Outskirts of Town and Find Clue in Small Square Piece of Cardboard on Which is Writing. The search for desperato criminals often leads to places fur remote from tile scene of their crimes. Medford in many miles from Los Angelos, the scene of the recent duslnrdly rcniie of blowing up the Times, but the men who "turned tho trick" have been here. Authentic information that these desperadoes came to this town shortly after tho dynamiting has been received by local railroad officials and state police officers are hero trying to pick n clue which will lead to the present whereabouts of tho murderers. An anonymous letter to tho head of the S. P.'s detective department was the first clue to tho whereabouts of the robbers. Acting. Acting on thoinforniation conveyed in tho letter, detectives came here here and began a (piiet scrutiny of the suspected in dividuals, who occupied the small house on the outskirts of the ttowu, which was the home of a recluse who recently died. The detectives ob tained permission of the police de partment to' locate themselves near by, and from this point of vantage they kept close watch on the men. Yesterday afternoon an autoo cnme up and the men (there were four of them) climbed nboard. The detectives had a machine at their disposal nnd they quickly start ediu pursuit, first detailing two of their number to make a search of the hut. The search revealed that the men bad considered themselves safe from pursuit, for the cabin was well stocked with provisions.
