PAGE SEVEN ii N FIGHTER DEAD f I .! 1.1 Jacob Thompson of Ashland Who Took Part in Early Indian Wars in Southern Oregon, Crosses the Last Divide. , Jacob Thompson is the latest one of the pioneer citizens' ofi Ashland and Jackson County 'to cross the great divide, lie died at his home Sunday night in 'the 84th year of his age. Only' a Ifttle more than two months ago his wife died at an use almost as advanced. Mr. Thompson came across the plains to Oregon in 1847, went to the California gold miner in '49, and, returning settled in the Rogue River Valley In 1854. He was engaged in common with many others of the pioneer settlers of that day in defending their Jamics anil families against the attacks of the hostile Indians, and was a mem ber of Captain J. S. Miller's company in the Rogue Rver Indian War of 1855-0. He operated an extensive stock ranch in Kumnlh County fo many year1', returning to Ashland in 1882, whore ho has since resided lie has been largely interested jit properly in this (4ty, including busi ness blocks and, residence-properties.
