A bill providing for the guarantee of bank deposits has been introduced in the upper House of tho Legislature by Senator Owen. The bill has been agreed upon by the mnjority members of the Legisla ture. It provides that on the sec ond Monday of next January all tho state banks shall set. aside an amount equal to 1 per cent of their, inerage daily deposits for a fund, to be known as "depositors'. insur ance lund." Every year tberealter they will bo required to add to this' fund one-tenth of one per, cent of tho average deposits until the total fund average 2 per cent of the aver age total deposits.
