MAYOR To iry "Prionds, Noihhors nikl Follow Citizens: 1 am a candidate for the office ol' mayor of the city of Mcdford and I think it is due you that I give public lit tQi'iUicc to the grounds on which J ask your 'support. .( own property and am in business in this city. All my interests are here. .1. have been a member of the council for the past three years and the knowledge and experience J have gained while acting in that capacity will be ol val ue to you in, transacting the business of the city if you elect: me mayor. . L havo every faith in tho future growth of Mcdford. Today she is the greatest factor in the development of the Rogue River valley and if her affairs are well, properly aud progressively managed she will always be the great dominant city of southern Oregon i .if you elect me your mayor on the 10th of this month Ipledge you that to the best of my ability-1 will give the city afclean, progressive, business administration. There js()uly one way to insure an able and successful administration of a city's affairs and that is by placing an able and competent man at the head of each department, .!- . I 1 1 111 i aim no man win ne named lor any position simply because he is my friend, lie shall be more than that; ho shall also bo capable and honest and if he does not make good he shall step down and out. On the question of the sale of liquor in our city there is a wide divergence of opinion. Some believe in prohiibting its sale entirely; others believe in its regulation by one method or another, and on this question I can state my position in language, if possible, that cannot be mistaken or misunderstood. 1 firmly believe in the licensed saloon with properly enforced reirulative laws as the best svstem vet devised for the protection of our citizens against the intemperate use and abuse of liquors, and if I am elected mayor 1 will use all Urn, influence and power of piy offico to have meas ures enacted that will rigidly regulate all places that are not strictly law-abiding and "orderly. To this position no exception can be taken by any saloonkeeper who expects to conduct a decent and orderly business, and 1 do not ask nor do I want the support pi this election of any liquor dealer who does not have a disposition to conduct his busi ness along tneso lines. In my judgment no new saloons, to a greater number than we now have, should be licensed to open in the city of Mcdford, and if X am elected I. shall not favor during niyterin of office the granting of now licenses, with this exception, that in the event of the construction of one or more first-class hotels, licenses shall bo granted them to conduct a high-class hotel bar. .In closing I wish to sav that 1' consider it a great honor, to bo mayor of tho city of Mcdford, and if you elect me toi that position 1 wish to assure you that .1 will not knowing ly betray the trust and confidence you place in me. There aro '15 acres in the tract and it is only a mile from a shipping station. There are about 1 1 acres in apples, 13en Davis, Winesaps, . Spilzenborgs, Newtowns. Trees are about 20 years old. They are in good condition and produce heavily. There are also about 12 acres in standard varieties of peaches, in full bearing. About. 8000 crates of peaches were shipped from this orchard last year. There are also 8 acres planted to Newtown apples, which .wej'o three vears old this winter. , The balance ' The buildings consist of a house, barn and packing house. We think a reasonable estimate of the crop on this place this coming year would be oOOO to 1000 boxes of apples and (5000 to 8000 crates of peaches. A team of horses aud a full equipment of machinerv goes, wllli the place. The price is $15,000, a trifle more than $100 an aero. Tho terms asked are half cash, balance easy.
