SECHETAHY LADIES' AID. Tho Wednesday Study club met last week with Mrs, English on Oak dale avenue. A very interesting pro gram was given, tho subject for the afternoon being, "Art in common things." This subjcot was divided into sub-tonics and the ladies on the program each gave a .short , tulle on the part assigned to them. "Sustein and Household Economy" was the subject of Mrs. Vawter's talk; "Ait in House Furnishing" was .Mrs. P. J. Nell's; lr&. Wool had "Art in the liiiugalow" Mrs. llollis, "Art in Dress"; Mrs. Mears, "Art All Around Us"; Mrs. Tattle, "Art in Everyday Living," and Mrs. Gale, "Art in Con versation and Letter-Writing." Af-. Icr tho program refreshments were served and tho alfair otok a social turn, when the subject of art was generally discussed among tho ladies. The next meeting of tho club will be held January 11 at the residence of Mrs. Alford. The subject will be h charge of Mrs. Parsous and will be "Education of Women's Clubs, Pat and Future." The second of the Swastika dances will be given -December 12!) in the large hall of the Natatoriuni. This hall has been engaged for this occasion on account of the unusually large, number of invitations issued for this dance, as there will be so many people in town during tho hol idays. Hut nil the other dances will be held in St. Mark's Hall. Huzel- figg's orchestra will play. The Juveniles held another of their enjoyable dances Monday night nt the "Nat." This popular club is al ways well attended and a good time is always assured. The ladies of the club surprised the gentlemen on this occasion with a supper. At 11 o'clock there was a grand inarch and the party was led into the large dancing hall, whero a delicious supper was served. At the meeting Wednesday eve of the Eastern Star new officers were elected. Mrs. Lillian Woodford is now worthy matron; Mrs. Morrioic, associate matron; Mrs. Hargrave, conductor; Mrs. Shearer, associate conductor; Mrs. Klwood, secretary; Mrs. Strang, treasurer; Mrs. Watt, worthy patron. The date has not yet been set for installation, On account of illness, Mrs. Gale was uuablo to entertain the Monday Bridge club at her home last week. and iMrs. Couro Fioro was hostess at tho homo of Mrs. Edgar Hater. Mrs. Tonilin, with the highest score, won the prize, u, pretty brass tray. The club meets this week with Mrs. Run. .f ' Mr. A. A. Davis and wiiV and Mr. Scott Davis, wife and daughter left for California Inst, week. They will make a short stop in San Fnuicisco uid then go to Los Angeles, where they will remain during tho winter months. Mrs. Gale is quite ill with tonsi-litis. Christmas exercises will bo held at tho Baptist church Thursday night. This is to be a "giving" Christmas and there will bo a mis sion box, each class of the Sunday school giving their offering at that time. Tho friends of Mrs. Nelson neo Pearl Webb) will learn with regret of the death of her 4-year-o!d daughter of diphtheria. Mrs. Nelson lived in Medford many years and has a host of friends here. The friends of .Mr. Fred Cummings were greatly surprised last week to learn that he had become a benedict .Mrs. Cuniniings is expected to arrive soon in Medford. The Five Hundred club was enter tained Friday afternoon at the resi dence, of Mrs. Houck. This will be the last meeting of the club until after Christmas. Dr. Phipps and his sistei left on, Thursday for Los Aifo'cs Cnlr where they will spend 'he winter VI r. Vernon Vawter is not expect ed 'home until after Christmas. He is o member of tho University Glee chili, which is making its annual tour. iVlr. 'and Mrs. Charles W. Palm left foi; California last week, whero they willl make a short visit before start- in; on their trip around the world. a 'Mr. W. II. Sterling and son of Chi eugo are spending some time in Hie. valley. Mr. Sterling is interested in tU ranch near Central Point. Mr. Deuel left last week for an ex tended trip. Ho expects to bo away rlhroo months and will travel through "tho cast and south. Mr. J. A. McAllister of Buffalo, h N. Y., was a guest at the homo of Mr. und Mrs. E. E. Goro for a fow days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Pelton of Sams Valley wero the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lawton last week. Dr. ltoddy loft for Portland last week. Dr. Piekel returned Saturday from Portland, where ho has been attend ing a meeting of tho state board of health. Tho Ladies' Aid of the Christian church met with Mrs. Bon Garnet last Wednesday. The Aid will not meet again until nftcr the holidavs. Mr. and ,Mrs. Gerard Taillandor expect to take possession of their new home on Oakdale avonuo this week. Dr. and Mrs. Page have returned from nil eastern trip. While away thoy visited their old homo in Ver mont. Mrs. Jacks of Albany loft for her homo Friday. While in Medford she was tho guest of Mrs. II. G. Wort man. Mrs. Burko leaves this week for Pasadena, whore she will join her daughter and spend tho winter. Mr. 1?. A.
