ROBT. W. TELFER. City Recorder. LaSt ChflllCe in Business Property at Such Tremendously Low Figures $5000 LESS THM ADJOINING PROPERTY PAID ADVERTISEMENT (Ry the Antl-Saloon Lengm) THE SALOON IS GOING Some wonder at tho flimsy argu ments of tho speakers against pro hlbitlon. It Is tho most difficult thing In the world to say anything In favor of the saloon. Tho best speakers on that subject can find no flights for genius or for oratory. Tho speakers for the saloon are for the most part speaking against their con science. When Judas betrayed Christ ho received 30 pieces of silver. Can anyono tell what Rev. William A. Wasson gets? Yes, tho brewers can tell you. Sold out to the whisky pow er. Tho Institution. A business man who does not give his name, but who hides under tho Greater Oregon Home Rulo associa tion, writes favoring the continuance of whisky reign, Medford Mail Tri bune, Thursday, October 20, 1910. In that article ho says: "Tho saloon can not bo defended nny more than the social evil." This puts tho saloon mighty low even In the mind of Its defender. The Oregonlan In an edi torial September 17, 1910, says: "Wo aro not trying to dpfend tho American saloon. In Its present con dition it Is Indefensible." This Is again tho testimony of tho saloon's staunchest friend. Clarence Darrow, tho man who It is said, gets $10,000 from tho brewers and distillers for his tour In Oregon, said at Portland, Or., October 18, 1910: "I don't be lieve for a moment that tho human system needs alcohol In any form." In Pendleton, on October 14, ho said: "Alcohol never does anybody any good. Men would be better If they never touched it." Judged by the words of these their defenders, do not alcohol and tho traffic In It stand condemned In the consciences of their friends. Since tho defenders of tho saloon testify that tho saloon is In a class with ovlls such as a baudy house, and that It Is Indefensible, and that the goods It handles aro useless, what Just claim can It have upon any man for IiIh vote? A thing that Is wrong and useless ought not to be, and business would not Buffer by the banishment of tho saloon as many business men In our city will testify. Tho universal testimony from dry territory by responsible men Ih that business is helped by voting out tho saloon. Linn County. It. Stubbs Is the governor of Knnsa8, olected to his office by tho republican party In Kansas. On March 27, 1910, ho spoke In Chicago as tho official representative of Kan sis. His word as governor of tho state contradicts tho assertions of tho men who havo sold out to the brew ers and distillers, who practically own all tho saloons In our country. This Is vhat Governor Stubbs says is the result of voting out tho sa sa sa leons: "I assort that tho buslnoss of Kan sas has mado remarkable progress since the banishment of tho saloon and adoption of prohibition.
