The banners are of heavy silk, handsomely mounted, the hand-palnt-cd design being a reproduction of Pomona, the goddess of fruit, with AVIATORS TO ATTEMPT PASSAGE OF ALPS RANGE t tit- $R t aR .t JTrtla7 tiff , rT5ilSw9f5i iK; &l9hbIIH PARIS, Sept. 3. Nothing inter ests the Parisians more at present thau the prospect of a prent struggle among aviators of all nations to win the prize of $20,000 which has been offered to the daring airman who first crosses the' Alps. Nenrly all the French aviators of fame have already entered their names, and some are actually training already. The route fpr this scnsationnl nerial voyage is from Brieg, 2400 feet above sea level, through the Simplon Pass (C0OO feet), Domodos sola, over Lake Maggiore, to Milan. It will take place about September 20, during the Milan aviation week. The start will be made from a meadow about Brieg, close to Lnu- enen. The aeroplanes will follow the Snltine valley, risini toward the pass, and probably about that time they will fly above the white soli tudes of the snows. The first part of the voyage will be relatively easy, as the mountain rises with a gentle gradient, nndthe descent beyond the pass, as far as Iselle, lends to a wide valley. But farther on toward Pontecreola, the route becomes narrow and rocky and assumes the characteristic aspect of an Alpine gorge. 4- MEDFORD TIME TABLE. - - No. No. No. No. No. the name of the winner and the ex hlblt for. which the award was made ' In the panel.
