Negotiations were closed today for the pur chase of the Condor Water iM- Cower company, oicrntlng plants at Grants Ca.sM, Medfonl, Central Point and Gold Hay hy the II. M. Hylleshy company or Chicago. The consideration was $1,000,000. It was stated here that more than $i!.0,000 is to 1m spent immediately for improving the plant. This means that the war between the Hyllesby coitiwmy of Chicago and the General Electric company for the control of electric jKwer In the northwest lias assumed an Important phase. The Hyllesby company recently purchased power sites near Coos Hay, Or. Dr.' C. R. Ray, president of the Rogue River Electric company, suc cessors to the Condor Water & Pow er company, today denied that tho deal, as reported from Chicago, was true. Ho stated that ho know noth ing of negotiations for tho salo of tho property. However, it Is known that a party of some eight men hnvo heon negoti ating with Dr. Ray for tho past two weeks and have been examining tho plant nt Gold Ray. The matter of inadequate hotel ac commodations which has become n vital question in tho city nt present nnd promises to become omro aeuto this spring nnd summer, was discus sed at length by the ladies of tho Greater Medford Club on Monday nfternoon. The ladies decided to take the matter into their own hands and find a remedy. They decided to io into tho rooming house business "on their own hook." A committee consisting of Mos dames Miller, Whetzcl and Hay was appointed to determine the cot of renting tho Christian church taber nacle nnd tho Bungalow skating rink. It is then planned to fit these up us rooms in which transients can lie hnuscd. A committee of the club will conduct them, placing n matron in charge. In this way n large number of additional accommodations can be secured. Tho ladies will meet with the com mercial club Wednesday evening to secure their support in tho move ment. Thoy plan to get started and pay the club back as soon as they make enough out of tho plan.
