THE MEHFOED MAIL TRIBUNE, MBDEORD, OREGON, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1909. ' nc EDiiiT MUM Classified Advertisements, Business Directory and Market Reports f Ui I Kill I SiSlPb v t One of Largest Meetings of Fruit jt' grews Ever Held In City bothered Saturday Afternoon. The meeting of the Horticultural society bold Saturday afternoon was the largest ever hold in the history oMhe society. The Commercial club ooms.were crowdqd to the doors, qutsj(le.;inthe corridor and down the stairs to the street. Tom Richard son come along and seeing the crowd, thought Mcdford perhaps had found a "booster" who was likely to carry away some of his laurels, and f oroed his way through to find just a gath ering of the fruit growers. In a short speech he stated that the meet ing was ahead of anything in the line in the state, and that the people of Southern Oregon were doing more, and better work than any other part of the state. Tho address of Professor O'Gara on "Planting an Orchard" was a most comprehensive and instructive ;address, covering as it did evpry fea ture of successful fruit growing from the selection of the land to the harvesting of the crop, and was lis tened to with unabated interest from beginning to end. C. E. Whislcr made a short address explaining the features of the La Fean bill in relation to size of apple and pear boxes, which bill, if it passes congress, will work to the detriment of the orchardists of Southern Oregon. This bill will be discussed and ar rangements made to have the fruit growers represented at the next meeting of congress, at the National Fruitgrowers' convention to be held at Spokane n November 16. Delegates to the convention were elected. C. E..Whisler, J. A. West terlnnd and E. B. Waterman were" se lected. These gentlemen will attend in person and will ce-operate with the ether growers in any movement looking to defeat of this weasare. Petitions were presented by Chas. Ifeserve, addressed te the agricultu ral department, asking for a soil sur vey and for the establishment of a forecasting station at Medford, and were signed by every one present. The petitions will he in the office of Professor O'Gara for a short time, where all interested will have an op portunity of signing them. The matters embraced-in these pe titions are of vital interest to the people of the Rogue River valley, and the petitions, when finally sent in, should contain the name of practi cally every resident of Jackson Coziest Homes on Earth Is Medford A BUNGALOW CITY? Southern California is as noted the world over for its bungalows as it is for its climate. Why not make it so with Medford 7 I am here from the "home of the .bungalow," with the latest plans and ideas from one of our most famous bungalow architects. Drop mo a lino and let me call and talk it over with you before building. Address R. W. HARRIS, The Palms, opposite the Moore Hotel, Med ford, Oregon. SEVEN BODIES TAKEN FROM RUINS OF LARGE FACTORY NEW YORK, Nov. 8. Seven bod ies have been taken from a burning celluloid factory at 153 Columbia street, Brooklyn, and it is feared that other victims may be in the doomed structure. Dr. Charles McGougan arrived Sun day from Salt Lake City to become a permanent resident of the Rogue River valley. He became interested in thin TullftT more than a vear asro. when he invested in' a tract of laud," in association with his brother-in-lavr. 1. R. Williams, two and a half wiles east of Medford, and is more than satisfied with the investment. connty. Congressman Mawley stat ed in his speech here at the Commer cial club high jinks, that the people of this section were noted in Wash ington as not being afraid to state their wants. The executive committee of the Horticultural society is at work se curing data, showing cause why these 'petitions 'should be neted upon favorably, which will be transmitted to the department along with the pe titions. The reasons are many and forceful and petitions showing the unanimity of opinion of the people will help out a lot. Easiest I1ms to Build 1 4 Reagan MEDFORD MARKETS. '. - Fruit and Vegetables.
