C Ormsby McIIarg, who resigned as assistant secretary -of commerce and labor, and who is preparing to depart for New York to tako up tho practice of law, has fired a parting broadside at For ester Pinchot, Commissioner of Cor porations Herbert Knox Smith and former President Roosevelt, as well as all other active supporters of tho policy of conservation of natural re sources. "Tho alleged water power trust is an absurd myth," doclared McIIarg. no expressed extreme contempt tor tho "ultra conservationists" and said thoy wor'o "immoral." Ho charged that thoy used misleading statements and incomploto figures in making their arguments. Referring to Pinchot, ho character ized tho forester as a "trimmer." Incidentally, ho took issue with Commissioner Smith, who collected tho data for Roosovolt's famous spe cial message on tho water power trust. Tho concroto work hns all been finished and tho iron work is being put in place. Mr. Ens- torday of tho Columbia Bridge com pany, contractors for tho construc tion, was hero from Portland this weok, inspecting tho work. It is ex- pectod that tho structure will bo Decembor 15. S. G. Souman has finished his now storo building and is now occupying it. Tho now schoolhouse is practically finished and will be ready for occu pancy in a short time. It is understood, however, that a writ of probable cause has been asked di rect from tho United States supreme court at Washington, and that by this means it is hoped to delay the execution.
