The Misses Lulu, Sybil, Ruth and Marie Hager departed yesterday morn ing for Pendleton where they will re main for some time visiting with rela tives. H. Smith, abstractor has resigned. Miss Josephine Rich ardson has been appointed to fill the vaoancy. Among the Condon people in this oity last Sunday were T. E. Edwards, Dr. Pennypackor, H. A. Hartshorn and wife, Pat Murtha, Frank and John Smith. Mrs. M. E. Barton departel for Joseph, Oregon, Monday where she will visit for a month at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate Lane who resides in that oity. H. B. Geise, J. Lee Thompson, M. Steward, M. B BeiBly, O. F. Jones, L. A. Blakelv, Ira May and R. R, West of Hermiston, came over Satur day for the ball game. V. E. Burris, Walter Kimmell and Wayne Barbour, young men from Eugene arrived in Heppner last Mon day. They are looking for work la the Morrow county grain fields. Geo. Hu fiord came back from San Jose, Calif., last Moudav evening. George liked the Californa climate fine, but it was not agreeable to his brother's family and they have moved to Joseph, Wallowa county. J. S. Young, county commissioner is in town attending county court. He has been superintending road building and repair in various parts of the county and at present has charge of some work on the Rock creek road. Miss Mary Morgan returned from Moscow, Idaho. Tuesday evening where she has been for the past month visiting with her relatives there. She reports the Moscow country very wet and crop conditions backward as a consequence. R. F. Fraser, of Gooseberry, was a visitor in Heppner Wednesday and made this office a pleasant call. He was among those to suffer a loss of his crop bv hail that struck that sec tion recently but like the good looser he is, he will try again, with the hope of better suocess. Wm. H. Padberg, who was in town Saturday, is preparing to sow 500 acres of summerfallow land right away to fortyfold wheat. He believes that the wet season we have had will in sure him a good crop next season if the wheat is put in early. At any rate he has faith enough in the prop osition to give it a good try out. N. P. Petreson. representing M. II. Housor. Portland exporter of grain, was in Heppner a few days the first of the week making arraogements to buy wheat here the coming season. Mr. Peterson bought grain on the branch last Bummer for Mr. Houser, and is a hustler after business. It is his opinion that the market will open here at from 70 to 73 cents. Corrigall, president of the First National Bank of this oity was In from his Butter creek ranch (he first of the week, Roy Neill, a prosperous young farmer of the Butter creek section was attending to business in our city the first of the week. LeRoy Jones is occupying Mr. Whiteis' position in Thompson Bros', during his absence. Oscar Otto, Otheo Crawfoid. Jesse and Cecil Hale and Clarence Scrivener left for Fossil yesterday morning. They will help furnish the music for the celebration at that place. Cecil will also play with the Fossil base ball team. W. E. Walbridgeand Andy Steven son are furnishing the Heppner market with some mighty fine red raspberries and currants these days. A little later the loganberries will be coming on and we can secure- home-grown berries that will excell any that is shippedin. D. S. Barlow was in from Rhea creek yesterday and is rejoicing over the splendid rains we have been having the past two week. He was caught with a lot of hay down but say what little damage he will suffer from wet weather on his hay crop is more than compensated by the good it has done bis whaet ciop on the hill.
