Miss Mabel ' Tompkins and Mrs. Elmer Lane Wednesday drove out to the farm north of town where harvest ing is now in progress. A marriage license was issued at the county seat Wednesday to Irving C. Snyder and Graoe E. Overman, both of this county. This week Dr. Sharp performed an operation for the disease aud she is now fast improving. Mr; and "Mrs, Beryl Kidwell, of Walla Walla, have been guests of Mrs. A. A. Foss and the Gholson family for the past two days. They returned home this morning. Mr. Kidwell has been buying cattle in this vicinity. " Mrs. Fred Bosenzweig came over from Milton Tuesday evening and spent a day with Athena friends. She returned to Milton Wednesday even ing and will soon proceed to her home uear Eltopia, Wash. . Dr. Thomas, nf Milton, was called in consultation with local physicians yesterday, in the Case pt Charles Betts who is ill with fever.. Mr. Staggs has just brought his family to their home east of Weston from a month's stay in the mountains. His threshing outfit is now in the Dudley wheat on the reservation. " . "Miss Carrie Sharp arrived home Tuesday from Monmouth, after a con tinuous year in school. After the close of the Normal sohool in June Miss Sharp entered a summer school and is now : thoroughly equipped for her duties as teacher in the Athena school. The friends of Mrs. P. E. Colbern are pleased to see that she is gradually regaining her health, after a long period of illness. Uttder the. efficient care of Miss Henderson, a trained nurse, Mrs. Colbern is now abl to walk and to be out on the streets each evening in her perambulating chair. Anna Bowlus has comnienced suit . for divorce from G. W. Bowlus and alleges drunkenness aa the reason why she desires a separation. Tbey were married at Walla Walla in 1899 and have one child. The suit was filed yesterday by Peterson & Peterson, says the East Oregonian Walla Walla Bulletin: O. C. Beck, who ia an extensive farmer of the Eltopia district, was in the city yester day and stated that the spring wheat in that section of the country is yield iug in the neighborhood of IS bushels per acre. Mi. Beck ia naing a 15 horse power gasoline engine to run bis separator, and says that it gives entire satisfaction. Mrs. Warner and her hnsband were plaoed nnder 1750 bonds, and Frank Cnrland Thomas Thompson of Pendleton be came sureties for the same. The two were then released from custody. The Pendleton Tribune states that County Fruit inspector Howard Evans yesterday seized a wagon load of in fected fruit and burned it in the sub urbs of that oity. ; Mr. Evans Bays that a packing boose at Milton is sell ing culls aud infected fruit to ped dlers at one cent per pound and tbat these peddlers take it to Pendleton and dispose of it to merchants. The fine provided by the law for tne offer ing for sale of any infected fruit is from $50 to 100 and Mr. Evans de clares that this fine will be imposed should the offense again occur. He says the peddler whose fruit he de stroyed shall be fully reimbursed by the packing house. - .' i Last night in Adams a robbery was committed in the Murray ealoon. ' r" Yesterday while driving from Weston Mountain, in company with Beryl Kidwell,-of Walla Walla, W. J. Wilkinson met with ! an acoident which resnlted in a broken leg, and he now lies in Dr. Cashatt'a hospital at Weston. Mr.: Kidwell,- who is a well known stockman of the garden city, came over in this vicinity to pur chase cattle, and Mr. Wilkinson had taken him to the mountain for that purpose. While driving borne in the afternoon on the road east of Weston, the two men met some Indians, who when passing the rig whipped op their ponies, frightening the team. One of them rearing back, '. broke the double tree, thus allowing them freedom to run, whioh they did. The occupants seeing their danger in remaining seat ed, leaped from the buggy, Mr. Wil kinson breaking.. his leg below the knee. Both "bone6rwere fraotured. Mr. Kidwell who was pretty well brnised, caught the horses and tied tbem to the fence, afterward making his way to Weston where, he secured help and the injured man was con veyed to the hospital where he now ia.
