Buchanan, the expert 'ac countant, chief witness in the C. P. Davis case, who was killed in the Bridal Veil wreck, leaves a son and a daughter. His wife died last sum mer. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Curry, eyesight specialists, of Walla Walla, who have made many visits to Athena, will make their next professional visit Wednes day, February 14, at the St Nichols Hotel one day only, Rev. G. W. Kigby officiated at the double wedding in Pendleton, Tues day. The happy couples are John F. Bentley and Minnie L. Trimble, and Alva M. Moyer aud Laura P. Baker, all of Adams. Hereafter all open accounts with hardware dealers in this county, must be settled by October 1 of each year, either by cash or note. This rule was adopted by the county Hardware association at Pendleton, Monday. Miss Josie Danner, daughter of 'Mr. and Mrs. T. Danner, has taken up ber residence with her parents in this city. ' V A mild case bf diphtheria is report ed at the home of Walter Ely, on. Fifth street- The patient is Miss Ada Ely, who was taken ill Monday! The Ely home is under quarantine regu lations. Anti toxine was used by the attending physician and Miss Ely is reported recovering. Walter is boarding out" during the sickness at his home. Asa MoDaniel is numbered with those afflicted with the Panhandle fever, and has fioue to the Lone Star state to investigate. Should Asa bump up with a "Northerner" while there, he may conclude that old Uma tilla county is a good enough place to invest money in. It may be, though, that one of the genuine drouths they have there Will be necessary to con vinoe him. : Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Brotherton ar rived in the city last evening from Colorado, and will probably make their home in this city or vicinity. Mr. Brotherton is the youngest brother of Chas. Brotherton, and comes to the west for the first time, having left his home iu Virginia about a year ago. Mr. and Mrs. E. , L.
