Walla Walla - Union: Hiram Browu, who has been attending a Yale preparatory school for the past year, returned yesterday to euter Whitman college. He reports that his brother, "lies," Browu, has taken a year's course in the divinity school of that place and has supplied a pul pit in a Congregational church iu southern Vermont during the summer. Bull, of Seattle, have re turned to Pendleton after a few days' visit through the great wheat belt around Athena. They are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Vaugban. Gerking is up from bis Crook county ranch, and reports favorable conditions - in the irrigated portion of that county. Mr. Geikiug has done a vast amount of Jwork this year. He has sown 90 acres to alfalfa which is looking well. One hundred tons of hay was cut and stacked this season. County School Superintendent Frank K. Welles has completed the appor tionment of the state money among theschools of the bounty and on Oct ober 2 the apportionment will be made. A total of $10,912.69 comes to the schools of the county from the state this year. Great interest is being displayed in all parts of eastern Washington in the coming race meet and livestock show to be given by the Walla Walla County Fair Association at Walla Walla September 21 to 30, inolnsive, and it gives promise of exceeding the management's fondest expectations of real success. C. A. Barrett & Co. have installed for A. M. Gillis a 6-horse power gaso line engine. The engine is portable, being mounted on trucks, and has a wood saw attachment. Iu addition to sawing wood at the yard the engine will be used for power, which will soon add to his lumber yard equip ments. G. W. Bradley is entertaining his brother, E. P. Bradley, of Jetmore, Kansas, who is accompanied by his wife and daughter. Mr. Bradley farms on a large soale in Kansas and is one of the leading stockmen of that state. He is a civil war veteran and on his way to the coast attended the national encampment at Denver. A sister will arrive here Monday when the Bradley rarty will go to Portland to attend the exposition.
