Harry McBride, proprietor of the Red Barn, Weston's popular livery stable, brought over three buggies for J. E. Hull to paint Harry will get first-class work. "He knows it." Mrs. Fountain, wife of H. K. Foun tain, of Lewiston, Idaho,, died recent ly . at that place, leaving a bereaved husband and six children. Mr. Foun tain is a brother of Mrs. P. M. ManSfleld, of this city. Wallace H. Jones, brother of A. L. Jones of this city, died March 14 at his home in Malone, New York. The deceased will be remembered by Athena people, having visited rela tives here about 13 years ago. ;' There are many old soldiers in Athena and Umatilla county in whose memory is vividly inipwawed a tragic event that transpired 43 years ago yesterday. Yesterday was the anni versary of the battle of Shiloh. Mrs. Chas. C. Sharp passed through on the train Tuesday morning, in com pany with the Rigbys, en route to Al berta, where she may Invest in land. In which case, Mr. Sharp may go into business in his line in the north country. E. L. Barnett, formerly of this city, has engaged in business at Portland. With R. Andrews and C. A. Walker, Mr. Barnett has organized the Art Furniture Manufacturing company, with factory, office and warehouse on Hoyt street Theo. Danner.the photographer who is coming from Pendleton to locate in Athena and engage in business, has carpenters at work on his new build ing on lower Main street His gallery building is located just east of David Taylor's grain office. A Charles Norris is just at present interested in the training of an extra ordinarily fine colt, which he is pleas ed to designate to his friends and fellow horw-men as "Caution's best son." The colt is indeed a speedy one and will be well developed in the had of a man who would own every good horso in the county, if he could afford to buy them. Mrs. Green Estes is up from Pendle ton for a few days. rs. Edwin R. Cox spent yesterday with friends in Pendleton. Lost A child's hat Finder will please leave at this office. Mrs. O. C. Beck has returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Charles Nelson. Fred Stone, a teamster employed by A. L. Jones, has a serious attack of the mumps. Mrs. Charles Marsh and children left this morning on a visit to rela tives in Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Leach, of Weston mountain, spent Thursday at the Kil gore home in this city. Clarence LaBrashe, whose eyes are afflicted with ulcers, has been taking treatment in Pendleton. nSChe entire front of the Barrett buil fling has been repainted this week. Fred Page and J. C Stamper did the work. H. L. Wilhelm and wife were in the city yesterday from Seattle. Mr. Wilhelm is publisher of the "Coast," one of the leading magazines of the Paciflo Northwest. The "Coast" for May will contain a writenp of Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Curry, eyesight special ists who have been making visits to Athena for the past three years, will make their next regular visit Wed nesday, April 19, for one day only. Mr. Carter is organizing a suburban news service in the towns tributary to Walla Walla for the Union, and ex pects to visit us often in the future, -Pendleton Tribune: Action has begun against Mary J. Huson, as ad ministratrix of the estate of the late Lewis M. Huson, to collect $5,000 al leged to be due H. C. Baker on a promissory note issued January 25, 1899. The plaintiff is Charles H. Car ter of Pendleton. Mr. Ira Luna is in town from Con don, Gilliam county, where he has been employed for some time in a wheat warehouse. With his wife, Mr. Luna will return to Athena and take up his residence here, entering into a partnership with his father, A. H. Luna, in the blacksmith business. Mrs.. Mildred L. Bright of Moscow, Idaho, Grand Chief of the Rathbone Sisters, will visit Excelsior Temple in Athena next Wednesday evening, for the purpose of inspecting the temple. The ladies are preparing to entertain their grand officer in a befitting man ner. -."- .ir..--.. -.y.y,, y.-- George Kinnear, who has recently arrived from North Yakima, was in the city this week, visiting the Worth ington home. ' With his father, Mr. Kinnear has purchased the Angus McDonald farm on Couse creek, paying $9,000 therefor. The farm near Pen dleton has also been sold, considera tion, $2,000. . G. W. Bradley, delegate .from the Fifth district Paciflo jurisdiction of the Woodmen of the World, to the meeting of ' the Head Camp, will leave for Los Angeles Sunday evening. Mrs. G. D. Foster, who is a delegate to the meeting of the Grand Circle, which also convenes at Los Angeles, will also leave Sunday evening. Ore gon Woodmen and Women of Wood craft will leave Portland in special cars, and will visit points of interest in California. , The Colonel'! Waterloo. Colonel John M. Fuller, of Honey Grove,.
