C, the past year, arrived home last evening for the summer's vacation. Dry grass and weeds standing along the streets and sidewalks in addition to not being attractive to tha eye, is a con stant menace for starting conflagrations. W. A. Flower, an experienced pho tographer, and L. G. Pickel will con duct the Umatilla Art gallery. Mr. Flower will manage the gallery and Mr, Pickel will look after the outride work. Os burn. - Mr. Fountain, a cousin of Mrs. Frank Mansfield, who with his grand daughter, Miss Vansize, has been visiting at the Mansfield home, left this week for Lewiston. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dickenson and daughter Ruth left this morning for Camaa Prairie, where for two weeks they will recreate and visit with friends and relatives. WS. C. APostmaster Githens yesterday moved bis family into one of the Kilgore houses in the south part of town. Mrs. Gay Clark and family moved into the house on Fifth street vacated by Mr.- Githenswi Anthony Corley, the pioneer sheep- herder who is believed to be insane and who left Douglas Belts' sheep ranch last week, has not as yet been found. He is believed to be lost on the range above Pilot Rock. XThe "Hard Times" social tonight will be the event of the season. The cos tumes will be fearfully and wonderfully made. Mrs. Graham, who haa been visiting at th home of her brother, Dr. A. W. Botkin, for several weeks, left for her home in Portland yesterday morning. As the Fourth draws' ne ar people are beginning to make up their minds where they will spend the day. Some will go to the river, but the vast majority in this part of the county, including the residents of the near by towns, will cele brate in Athena. Mrs. Mabel Nelson Chastain. of Mil ton, Grand Chief of the Rathbone Sisters, was in the city Monday evening and inspected Excelsior Temple No. 21, finding the lodge in fine working order. Mrs. Chastain was entertained by Mrs. E. L. Barnett while in the city. Everybody iD the United States will Celebrate the grand and glorious Fourth, the newspaper fraternity not excepted. Athena will have a two-day celebration and in honor of the occasion the Press will not be issued Tuesday. Stick this in your hat. Keep cool and don't both er the postmaster on Tuesday for a Press, for there'll be none in the office. Take a glass of lemonade and be merry. - A stereopticon entertainment consist ing of illustrated songs, patriotic and otherwise, and views of the World's Fair now in progress at St. Louis, will be given at the Christian church on Monday night, July 4th. Those who have witnessed preceding entertain ments given by Rev. J. W. Jenkens, will be pleased to avail themselves of this opportunity for passing a pleasant and instructive evening.
