JOHN DAY – On Feb. 9,
we had a really tasty homemade
corn chowder, tossed salad and
grilled garlic toast. For dessert
we had whipped fruited Jell-O
with whipped topping. Greeting
us at the desk were Ron Dowse
and Kris Labhart.
Francis and Bonnie Kocis
delivered 21 meals and eight
frozen meals to shut-ins. Veanne
also helped deliver.

Veanne is back after quite an
illness. We are glad to have her
back. She announced the next
dance will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday,
Feb. 21, here at the senior center,
with live music by the Up River
Country Band.
She also noted we have lost
a lot of our seniors in the last
couple weeks – Mary Vik, Mary
Lambeth, Jack McKenna, Vera
Hensley, Richard McKinley and
Rita Bremner.
Veanne also announced that,
due to people coming in for
lunch at the last minute, lunch
will not be served until 12:05
p.m. Try to be here by 11:45
a.m. so the cooks know how
many tables to set up. Thank
you for your thoughtfulness.

On Feb. 12, we had chicken
cordon bleu, rice pilaf, cooked
carrots and rolls. For dessert we
had homemade cream puffs.
Yummy! At the desk were Ron
Dowse and Margaret Glass.
Margaret and a group from
Community Counseling Solu-
tions delivered 29 meals. Cor-
nerstone Christian Fellowship
members were our servers.

Veanne wished everyone a
happy Valentine’s Day and then
gave reminders about coming
events announced Monday.
We’ve had great turnouts for
the Thursday lunches and also
for bingo after lunch. Come and
join us for great fun, food, fel-
lowship and the chance to win a
little at bingo.
Erin Osgood from the
County Health Department and
Veanne will be starting a Liv-
ing Well Workshop if there is
enough interest. They will have
a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 18,
to set up times and places. Any-
one interested can contact Erin

Thursday, Feb. 19, we will
have chicken chow mein, and
on Monday, Feb. 23, burrito
casserole. A little ethnic vari-
ety, which I personally love.
That also will be Judy’s last day
cooking for us. We will miss her
bunches.

We have a couple of Mon-
ument announcements. First,
Monument 4-H is selling orang-
es and grapefruits. If you are in-
terested, please notify Sahara and
let her know you want to order
some.
Secondly, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
on Thursday, March 5, a free
CPR (cardiopulmonary resus-
citation) class will be offered,
taught by Rose Howe at the
Monument Senior Center. The
class is available to the whole
community, and is sponsorerd
by the Monument Service Club.
They are also providing a free
lunch for those attending.
Those interested can call
Rose at 541-934-2088 or Syl-
via Cockrell at 541-934-2220,
so Rose can have the necessary
teaching equipment. After lunch,

Again, there is absolutely no
charge for this CPR class. I think
it’s a good thing; you never know
when someone might need help
and you could save their life.
One of the few things I re-
ally dislike is coming up soon:
“Spring forward.” It just ab-
solutely messes up my whole
schedule from when I go to bed,
when I eat my meals, and when
I get up. It takes weeks for my
family and me to adjust to that
darn time change. By the time
we get adjusted, it’s almost time
to revert back to “Fall back.” I am
here to tell you that dreaded day
will soon be upon us – it’s March
8. Some of you might like it; me,
not so much.

MONUMENT – We’ve been

er, haven’t we? It’s hard to stay
cooped up indoors. I like this sort
of weather, when it is cool and
crisp. I actually can walk around
in a short-sleeved shirt.
I feel bad for the people on
the Eastern seaboard. They are
just getting clobbered with snow.
Wish they could share some with
us. I don’t think I will need my
snow tires anymore this season,
sigh.
For our lunch on Feb. 10,
we had hamburgers, curly fries,
macaroni salad, and dessert.
Our cooks were Terry Cade and
