A2 Family Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, January 28, 2015 O BITUARIES Lucille Morgan Spell Reeves Aug. 7, 1923 – Jan. 17, 2015 MACON, Miss. – Lucille Morgan Spell Reeves, 91, died Jan. 17 at Noxubee General Hospital Macon, Miss. A funeral service was held Jan. 22 at the Chapel of Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, followed by interment in the family lot at Oddfellows Cemetery. Mrs. Reeves, a Macon native, was born Aug. 7, 1923, to Wil- liam Elmo and Jimmie Thompson Morgan. She was a graduate of Macon High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women. While in college, she met and married Keith Spell of Lake Cormorant, Miss., who was a student attending Mississippi State University. After a short time in Bakersfi eld, Calif. during World War II, the couple returned to Macon and made their home there. Early on, she worked at various offi ces in the Macon area, includ- ing those at the Borden Plant, and at Moore and Woods Commission Co. She fi nally arrived at the Macon Beacon newspaper, where she soon rose to be the Editor of Society News, a position she held until her retirement over 25 years later. Active in community and local civic organizations, she was in- volved in the Macon Pilot Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her primary sidelines with the DAR was gene- alogical research through the old county records. Her involvement with the Noxubee County Historical Society led to her publishing their newsletter, The Bulletin. As busy as she was with her various jobs and organizations, she was always proudest of having taught several local people to read using the Labauch method. She was also an active member of Elon Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher as well as the church pianist. After her husband’s death in 1972, she married Pete Reeves in 1974. Together in retirement, they spent many happy hours travel- ing, fi shing and socializing with friends at their camp house near the river outside of Macon. She also now had time to enjoy her talents as a gardener, fl oral designer and painter. What she enjoyed most of all, though, was the time she was now able to spend with her “grands.” Survivors include her sons, Keith (Shirley) Spell, Jr. of Macon, Jim (Beth) Spell of John Day, Larry (Lucy) Reeves of Alpharetta, Ga., and Bill (Carolyn) Reeves of Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchil- dren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
