Mrs. Muggie Pirie, wifi of James Pirie, aged M y ars Deceased had been ill for a few weeks, but her friends did not realize it was serious. Mrs. Pirie was one of the pioneer women of this county having conn- here several years ago with her husband and they had made their home on the farm since. She was highly respected by a wide circle of friends who mourn with the bereaved hus band. The funeral was held last Monday afternoon at Harney. Rev. Dr. Benson of the Presby terian church of thiH city conduc ting tho service. Interment was Henry C. French and A. H. made in the Harney cemetery. Lurry were among our visitors from the Harriman section this week. These gentlemen reKrt that the frost of last week did little damage in their neighbor hood, in fact there is less evi dence of it there than in this vicinity. . The generous rains during the week with cool weather hits been very beneficial to crops following the frost of last week. It has caused the bad effects of the freeze to be less injurious and with the additional moisture make the final results more pro mising. Wilson. 27 Bruss Byrd, who was called over from Juntura on account of the death of his father, returned yesterday morning on the Mc Kinnon auto as he has to be on the job in his newspaper office. Bruss was generous in his praise of the crops in this section, stat ing they looked even better, es pecially the gardens, than at Juntura where the altitude is much lower. Sheriff Richardson. Mrs. C. A. Harlan and little son and Mrs. W. W. Iirinkwater and little daughter, were passengers out Tuesday night for Portland. They found no auto going at that time so took passage with George Hopkins in the new light truck now plying between here and Bend. The ladies will take in the Rose Festival in Portland and Mrs. Harlan will extend her visit some time, being joined in a few days by her husband. Mr. Richardson goes to get a new Buick car which he will drive back. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Mrs. Chas. Johnson Thursday when she and Mrs. Homer Reed and Mrs. Julia (awl field joined as hostesses in a miscellaneous snowur umuereu in honor of Miss Louel Smith who becomes a bride early in July. A large gathering of friends of the young lady gather ed during the evening and she was the recipient of many use ful and beautiful presents. Died At the home of her son on Soldier Creek between here and Harney, Sunday, June 7, Mrs. Angeline Cherry, aged 70 years. Deceased had not In-en enjoying good health for some time but her death was not ex pected at the time. She was the mother of James Kennedy and had been making her home with her son for a time. Heart disease was the cause of death, although in a younger person it would not have proven fatal, her age being too advanced to withstand a weakened heart action. The funeral was held at the Baptist church in this city Monday after noon, the service being conduct ed by Rev. Dr. Benson of the Presbyterian church.
