Barker is over from his home at Paisley looking after some business interests. He is going to move several head of stock over to his Warm Springs ranch for the winter. Mrs. 0. W. Waddle, who has been suffering with typhoid fever, is reported improving by her physician. Another member of the family a girl of 9. has con tracted the fever. Mrs. Millar opens a most com plete line of practical and season able millinery including all the newest ideas and novelties. At the usual stand with I. Schwartz in the Masonic Building. The ladies of this vicinity are invited to call at once. Drs. Griffith and Carl operated on Mrs. Arthur Turner yesterday at the Cummins hospital for ap pendicitis. The patient has re covered nicely from the shock and is reported doing well this morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dalton. do. Hopkins, who has hud charge of the harness Hhop in this place formerly run by W. B. Shelley, has taken a position with a harness and saddle shop in The Dalles. George is a good workman and will make good ut the bench in any shop. Roy Dwyre of the Electric Light & Power Co., was looking into the possibilities of power patrons this week and received sufficient encouragement to justi fy the power plant running dur ing the day time and this will be done within a :.liort time. With the steam laundry, public school, print shops, the packing plant, jewelers, garages, blacksmith shops ami other power needed, it will make a very good business for the company and local people should encourage the enterprise. Tonawama tomorrow night. Ferd Tipton was in the city this week. Remember the pictures tonight and tomorrow night at Tonawama Mrs. Marsden and George came over from Bear Valley this week. 'J. 0. Dr. Griffith operated on Lester Tyler at the Cummins hospital yesterday for adenoids and ton sils. He was assisted by Dr. Carl. Bay Jackson, a former teacher of this county but late of Cali fornia, is here on a visit with the Hurlburt family, being a nephew of Gus Hurlburt. John Marshall was in town this week and informs us he has leased his farm near Harney for a term and will go to Portland for a short time. I. Hamilton returned Mon day from liake county where he took State Supt. Churchill und the other instructors who had been present ut the institute last week. On Tuesday he took Mrs. Hamilton to I he home of her parents and was uccompunied hy N. C. Maria, field mun in con nection with the State superin tendent's office, who will tour the county and visit the various schools in company with Ms. Humilton. E. 11. King, one of the old pioneer residents of this section where he was in the lumber business for many years, arrived here from his home in Purl land last Suturday evening. Mr. King sees wonderful changes in this section since he moved awny ten years ago. He feels we are go ing to be one of the most pros perous sections of the entire wes'.. Mr. King has many old time friends in this section who are glad to welcome him among them. evening and spent a few days here with Mr. Johnson, the local representative. On Tuesday he went to Juntura and returned to Burns Thursday evening. Mr. Davidson states there is not very active work on the railroad west of Juntura but a railroad man offered to wager they would have the line in to Riverside by the first of the year. Mr. Davidson states his company is closing up several land deals at present and no doubt will make other trans fers before the winter roads makes operations slow. Al Southerland, one of the old time vaqueros of this section, who at one time was foreman at the I la ii' i ranch of the P. L. S. Co., and who was considered one of the best cow m n in the west, died last week at Drewsey. He had been in poor health for several vears and had not been active in the stock business. He was well to do at one time but lost his fortune. He had bought u smuir farm near Drew sey where he had made his home.
