kaMMMABMIiltfBaMBVMCMESBBBJMi r a INDUSTRIAL NOTES. Portland Corespondent Biff deleffatioii3 from nil parts of the stato will gather at Astor ia for the annual convention of tho Oregon Development League on August 14, 15 and 10. There is wide interest in tho approach ing session and a splendid pro gram has been arranged. Each section promises to have a full representation and tho meeting will mark a forward step in de velopment circles. Tho Centennial Celebration will have an added interest for delegates to the League gather ing and Astoria, known fur and wide for its hospitality, will make a special effort to enter tain tho Leaguers. On tho whole, tho approaching conven tion promises to be the best ever held in tho history of tho state wide development body. Lakeview people are making arrangments for a monster cele bration in October when tho new railroad, now building north from California, will reach that city. It is proposed to have the biggest demonstration of tho kind ever held in interior Ore gon, and it is expected that other cities of South Central Oregon will participate. It is probaplo there will be a week of general enjoyment over the coming of the railroad. Linn County farmers will take advantages of the opportunity to show their farm products at the annual county fair to be held at Scio on August 29, 30 and 31 and Sept 1. Cash premiums aggre gating $2500 will be olfered and racing purses amount to $1500. Prospects are for the best fair ever held in Linn Conn ty. Oregon's hop crop is another source of prosperity for the far mer this season. With 30 cents already paid for tho growing crop and reports of extreme shortage abroad, making further advances likely, the hop grower is in high feather. The state has an excellent yield of hops this season, the total being es timated at 100,000 bales, which is the biggest crop since 1907. A Historical institute wi'l be held at Astoria in connection with the Centennial Celebration on September 5, G and 7. Lec tures will be given at tho vari ous points of historic interest, so numerous about the mouth of the Columbia River, and many prom inent people of the state who are fully informed on these subjects will deliver the addresses. This institute will be of interest par ticularly to teachers of the Pa cific Northwest states. Springfield, after a big fire that wiped out the principal industry of the city, is going ahead plan ning a carnival, to be held late this month. The Springfield spirit is not easily discouraged and a bigger and busier city will be built because of this indomi table quality.
