The question is, what is the Guard's opinion? Does it indorse the "outside opinion" of the Review? The "opinion" o. the Review, reads like the "opin- ion" of the Booth-Kelley mill company. It is at all events an exparte opinion of one who doe not know what he is talking shout, ..... . . or else it is the opinion, or ss- , , 1 sumed opinion, of some member of the Booth-Kelley coneefn,. Does, the Review know anything about the term of the franchise the Booth-Kelley company have obtained from the county? Does it known that under the contract of the lease, which runs for ninety years, the company will have prac tically a monopoly on all the timber in th Mohawk country; by virtue of owning the waterways? Or, which is equal to owning it, th company having the exclusive right to dam and boom th stream, and charg such toll to others for passing logs down, as to give the company complete control of the lumber interest of that country The Broad-Axe, would suggest to th Review that it would better inform itself on th Mohawk fran chis mstter, before it .undertakes again to teach tha peopl of Lan county what i Kst for them. The present Oregon legislator is drawing to a close and a rangl j over the sugsr bounty bill,' th j school text took bill, a bill to tax , the property the people to rait i funds to protect the sheep of Eastern Oregon, the bill to gerrymander the state, and a bill to gratify the demand of th present district attorneys of the state includes about all of that body's work,, leaving out the matter of clerk hire, and voting themselves (and their clerks of course) stamps enough if set together for a bed blanket Mch. . We have beard nothing of th mortgage tax question or of a law to enforce taxation of the millions of bank deposits that now pay no taxes. - We are sick at heart. Our head ache, tye are tired ( h, so tired. When will that legislature and its army of fair damsels quit and give their constituents and tlie state treasury a rest? When? Speed the day. We ar glad to note th fact that the representatives from Lane cast their votes against the sugar bunty biil. Such measures smack too much taxing th people for tho benefit of the few, the taxing of men that an "infant industry" may be nurtured until it may bloom out a crushing monopoly. Besides the Broad-Axe thinks such a measure contrary to the spirit of the constitution, If not in viola tion c f its U tter. We express the bop( that the covet not will put the seal of condemnation, on the bill by a good strong veto. In view of th fact that th bill parsed th house by a bar majority of on w think tb governor can consistently veto it with no fears that th house would pass it over his hood.. It Is On.
