The school term of Miss Austin
closed hero last Friday. It is with
regret that the district consented to
release her, but she had the prom
ise of a summer school on the coast
at good wages, so the trustees
thought it not right to retain her
for a month and disappoint both
her and the coast people in the
school for the summer.
Mr. 1'almer of Dallas has been
secured to teach our spring term of
school, commencing last Monday

expecting to start a creamery in
that lumbering city. We under

great deal of damage to the cherry
crop by cutting oil tbe blossoms.
Home limbs are almost destitute of
blossoms.
Our school will close next Friday
with two graduates from the eighth
grade, Lois Osborn and Earnest
Peterson. Earnest is only twelve
years old and successfully passed
his examinations. We doubt if
there ia another school in tbe coun
ty can boast of as young a graduate.
We congratulate these two young
people. May they succeed in all
tbeir worthy aspirations through
life.
Several of our young people are
training hope.

The farmers have been taking
advantage of the excellent weather
we have had recently and are get

Mr. Shinn of Independence

blooms and tbe outlook is good for
a large crop.
A. J. Shipley is putting out two
hundred Logan berries and six
thousand strawberry plants.
Tbe familiar "honk" of the wild
geese as they make their way to
ward the tundras of the north to
spend the summer, informs us that
we may soon expect dry weather.
J. B. Stump has a field that
would make most any stock man
feel good to look at. He sowed it
to rape last summer and has kept
stock on it ever since. In the fall
he sowed vetches and they are
simply immense.

aleb was moving Mrs. Avery and

Falls City to the home of ber
daughter Mrs. Chas. Davis, the
wagon tipped over. Mrs. Avery
was thrown out, dislocating ber
shoulder and bruising her very
badly. The others were not hurt.
Medical aid was secured as soon as
possible and she is now slowly im
proving.

rods of woven wire fence and other
wise improving bis farm.
The farmers are all rushing the
plowing and seeding during the
good weather.

Oak Groye Grange met in regu
lar session April 23 with a fair at
tendance. Some did not come be
cause of the rush in farm work.
There will be a meeting on the ev
ening of May 14 when a clans of
candidates will be initialed in the
mysteries of the first and second
degrees. The grange will also
make arrangements for the enter
tainment of Pomona grange which
will meet with it June 11th. A
large class is expected to take the
five degrees at this meeting
Farmers and hop growers are
very busy preparing tbeir fields
for crops.
, J. P. Holmes has surely solved
the labor question by employing
voune women to twine and train
bops. They are equal to men for
this work and more steady.
C. N. McArthur has decided not
to put out any 'more hops on the
Molsen farm this year.
Warren Allen Las added another
industry to his farming; that of
dairying.
The-e are many strange faces in
our midst.
Stock is smiling over tbe fast
growing grass. Why shouldn't
they, after so long a winter?
G. F. Seeley is replacing the old
fence around his farm with woven
wire fencing.
