A few years ago the book-typewriter was a convenience unknown to the county clerks and recorders of Ore gon. According to the Corvallis Republican, there are only two coun ties in the state without these ma chines at the present time. The first book-typewriter was installed in the Polk county clerk's office about five years ago and proved such a saver of time and money that a second machine was soon added. Judge Coad informs ! the Obsekveb that these two type writers save the county fully $500 a year in the expense of deputy hire and black record books.
