ANGORA MEAT IS GOOD Growers Should Encourage Butchers and Hotel Men to Supply Ttieir Customers V ith Goat Venison. Kami Northwest. There was an unkind elam at goat meat in the market column of the Daily Oregfn!an a few days ago. It was the reflection of an old-time prejudice which it is necessary t-,t Angora raisers to constantly combat The best place to start in to overcome this prejudice is right at home. Hotels in towns like Dallas, Oregon, should be indued to make a specialty of serving Angora venison or Angola mutton, whichever they choose to call it, on their tables, and the goat raisers should see to it that these hotels are . supplied with good goat meat and not with carcasses of ancient wethers whose failing teeth have consigned them to the shambles. Then, too, the meat markets of such towns should be persuaded to keep and sell Angora meat under its own name. Aside from the people who keep goat it is not probable that even in Oregon one person in a thousand has knowingly eaten the flesh of Angora goats, although the proportion of those who have eaten it as mutton is very much larger. A few years ago Mr. C. E. Holtgrei ve who then kept quite a large herd of ADgora goats near Portland frequently slaughtered wethers and sold the carcasses to a meat market in Port land. The customers who bought the meat for mutton did not object to it; on the contrary they wanted more mutton of the same kind. Of course, an old, thin Angora goat is pretty tough eating, and so is an old, thin wether of the sheep kind or an old ox. Within a few years the disposition of wether goats will become one of grave importance in Oregon, as the number of goats in the state is steadily growing at a rapid rate and is likely to continue to do so for a good many years to come.
