1: . - - I OREGON'S FIRSTS. George II Rimes has compiled a list of tirst events in the history of Oregon. Some of then) are: First white child, Alice Whit man, M.-irdi 11,- 1837, nonr Walla Wall;.. First marriages, Hev. Jason Lee and Anna i'iUiiian, and Cyrus ShejiherJ and Susan Downing, .July Hi, 1S37. First funeral service, July 28, 1So4, over French Canadian, by Hev. Jason Lee. Fn.-l religious service by Rev. Jason 1-ee, September 28, 1831. Hev. Lee also cradled the first grain. The first thresher was brought to Oregon hy Thomas Otchin, coining by way of Cape Horn and costing 15')0. Rev. J. L. rarrish brought some white clover here in 1840. F. W. Gillette brought the first roses, stiawLeriies and raspberries to Oregon. The first sawmill was built near Vancouver in 1S25 or 1820 by Donald Mason. William Meek brought some grafts to Linn county in 1847. The firtt brick was made in Ore gon by George Gay at Wheatland, Yamhill county, in 1841. The first frame house was at The Dalles, built by Rev. Perkins, October 1, 1839. Ktiene Lucier cultivated the soil first in 1S29, near Portland. I have, I believe, sold fifty bottles of Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tab . lets on the recomendation of one lady here, who tirst bought a box of them about a year ago. She never tires of telling her neighbors and friends about the good qualities of these Tablets. P. M. Snows, Druggist, Rochester, Ind. The pleasant purgative effect of these 'Tablets make them a favorite with ladies everywhere. For Sale by Wilson Drug Co. ; An Unfortunate Selection. It cannot but lie regarded as un fortunate that ilie Association of Indian Wur Veterans re-elected T. A. Wood to the position of head of the order. The Oregoniau has no dis position whatever to be unkind to him. He wanted "vindication," of course; but this does not vindicate him hi places where vindication is most needed. It will be a means of casting suspicion and doubt on many a proper flaiui under the special pension act, and unfortunately will go far to prejudice the department against the members of an order who deliberately select as their chief representative a man prosecuted to conviction for irregularities if no worse in con nection with their claims for recogni tion by the Government. It was not well considered, or he would not have been re-elected. And now, if he really (wishes to serve the Indian War Veterans, the best service he could render them would be to hand in his resignation. Oregonian. No Pity Shown.
