Robert Tomlinson, exhibit curator and participating artist, will present the free lecture. The exhibit features pho- tos of women and poems written in response to those photos. COMMUNITY CALENDAR Thursday book sale benefits local youth West Valley Hospital Vol- unteer Services will host a book sale from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the hospital, 525 SE Washington St., Dallas, in the main conference room immediately inside the front door. Children’s story books, cookbooks, general interest books, New York Times best- sellers, stationery and scrap- booking materials, music collections and gifts for all ages will be for sale. PCL offers chance to win game tickets Partnerships in Commu- nity Living Inc. will raffle off tickets to the Civil War, which is on Nov. 27 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. LWC, WOU to host Willamette film The Luckiamute Water- shed Council (LWC) and the Western Oregon University (WOU) Environmental Club is showing “Upriver: A Film for the Willamette” at WOU at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (today). The 60-minute film by Freshwaters Illustrated tells the story of how people from all walks of life are working together to restore the health of the Willamette River. The film will show in the Instructional Technology Center’s Auditorium Room 211 on the Western Oregon University’s campus in Mon- mouth, across from the Werner Center. A brief introduction from LWC staff will precede the film, starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. The filmmaker will be on hand to answer ques- tions. WVH to host two grief workshops Registration is open for two workshops Willamette Valley Hospice is hosting in November to help those grieving a loved one during the holiday season. Participants will gain practical ideas and coping strategies to assist them in their grief during the season. Workshop discussions will offer ideas for planning ahead, dealing with losses during the holidays, accept- ing feelings, and starting new traditions. A workshop for adults only will be offered in Dallas on Nov. 17 from 2 to 3:30 pm at West Valley Hospital, 525 SE Washington St., Dallas. For those adults with chil- dren ages 5 and older, an ex- panded workshop with age- appropriate activities will be offered in West Salem on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Willamette Valley Hos- pice administrative offices, 1015 3rd St NW.
