Ribich p l a c e d Ribich f o u r t h overall in the 8,000-meter race, recording a time of 24 minutes, 59 seconds, setting a new personal record in the process. Zach Holloway finished 15th overall in 25:45. T h e w o m e n’s s q u a d placed sixth. Senior Stephanie Stuckey finished the 6,000-meter course in 22:40, placing 13th overall. Junior Nicole Maurmann took 28th in 23:02. “David and Stephanie had star performances against nationally ranked oppo- nents in the GNAC,” Wolves coach Mike Johnson said. “Virtually every runner had a personal best, highlighted by David’s run against the fastest runners in the re- gion.” WOU will host the NCAA Division II West Regional on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. FOOTBALL DOWNS SIMON FRASER: Running back Malik Braxton set a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record, helping Western Oregon’s foot- ball team to a 37-26 win over Simon Fraser on Saturday. Leading 31-26 in the fourth quarter, Braxton broke a 99- yard touch- down run to put the Wolves up by two scores. The run was the longest in conference history. Braxton WOU’s Joe Harris held the previous record on a 90-yard score set in 2013. Braxton rushed for 176 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass in the irst quarter. The Wolves (5-3 overall, 3-1 GNAC) won its fourth-straight game. Western Oregon hosts Azusa Paciic Sat- urday at 1 p.m. SOCCER SPLITS: Seniors Dana Goularte and Makana Pundyke, and junior Taylor Higa scored as the Western Oregon women’s soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene 3-1 on Thursday. Goularte and Pundyke scored in the first half, while Higa’s goal came within the first 40 seconds of the second half. WOU lost to Montana State Billings 1-0 on Saturday in its final home match of the season. The Wolves (7-7-1 overall, 3-6-1 GNAC) close out the season at Seattle Pacific on Thursday and at Simon Fraser on Satur- day. VOLLEYBALL EARNS HOME WINS: Western Ore- gon’s volleyball squad earned a pair of conference victories, defeating Seattle Pacific 25-23, 27-25, 25-16 on Thursday and Saint Martin’s 25-19, 25-23, 21- 25, 29-27 on Saturday. The Panthers played Woodburn Tuesday after press time. Central entered the match in a tie with the Bull- dogs for fourth place with a 3-3 mark in Mid-Willamette Conference play. The top six teams advance to post- season play. The third and fourth seeds will host a play-in match, while the fifth- and sixth-place teams will travel on the road a g a i n s t a Mi d we s t e r n League opponent. Play-in matches are scheduled for Saturday. The winner ad- vances to the state playoffs, which begin Tuesday. VOLLEYBALL WINS REGU- LAR SEASON FINALE: Cen- tral’s volleyball squad defeated Woodburn 22-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 on Thursday to close out the regular season. With the victory, the Panthers inished in ifth in the MWC. Central opened the week with a 25-15, 25-21, 27-25 loss to Corvallis on Oct. 20. The Panthers played at Crater Tuesday after press time in the play-in round. Crater inished 11-9 overall and 6-6 in Midwestern League play during the regular season. Itemizer-Observer Athlete of the Week Bailie Hartford Central High Hartford, a sophomore cross-country runner, started out quickly at the Mid- Willamette Conference Championships and never let up. Hartford placed third overall on Oct. 21 with a time of 19 minutes, 25.19 seconds. The mark set a new personal record and also earned her a berth to the OSAA State Cross-Country meet on Saturday at Lane Community Col- lege in Eugene. Keenan Bailey Perrydale High Bailey, a senior, helped Perrydale’s football team dominate on the ground against Sherman on Friday. Bailey ran for 253 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 11, 13 and 54 yards. Bailey led the Pirates to 507 yards on the ground during the team’s 52-20 victory. The win improved Perrydale’s record to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Special District 4, clinching at least a share of the league title.
