J Jennings, the IJohcmia mining mnn and railroad promoter, was in Kugcne today on business, returning to Cottage Orovn on the 2:08 train. In an interview at the Hoffman House by n Guard reporter this altemoon Mr. Jennings stated that the surveyors for the proposed rail road from Cottage Grove to IJo hcmia are progressing rapidly with their work having gone 18 miles 011 the route. W. P. Morphy of Hos ton, manager of the railroad enter prise, arrived Sunday night and will soon go over the two routes proposed and decide which one will be chosen, Mr. Jennings said that the one running close to the Booth- Kelly Lumber Co's big tract of timber on Row river will be chosen. The Iiohemia mines can furnish nil the. ore for a 30o-ton-pcr-day smelter, which is the size of the one to be built, but if the miners of Iinstern Oregon, Washington and Idaho wish to patronize it, the capacity will be increased. Jennings, who has this week took up the bond and paid the cash for the Ferguson in terests.
