1 STOCK AND FARM. A Scio farmer sold two hogs the other day for $44. The combined weight was 985 pounds. Owing to the blighting of the lialf ripe prunes it is said that the California prune crop will fall short of the estimate made some time since. ' The Toledo Leader reported a sample of "pieplant" or rhubarb, growu in that town, whose leaf is 21 feet in circumference, and whose stalk is seven inches in diameter. A Wheeler county writer states that the condition of sheep in that section this season is better than for years. The writer accounts for it in that the range has not been overstocked thisseasou. The Wallace fruit farm near Lincoln will furnish about 75 tons of Bartlett pears to the Salem cannery. Tiie trees are now being budded, and in a few years the Bartletts will be superseded by late and hardier varieties. si During the civil war, as well as m our late war with bpain, diar iheoa was one ot the most trouble some diseases the army had to con tend with. Archie Gardner, of Plainview, tells us that the farmers of his vicinity have made experiments by raising a few acres of "spelts." It resembles barley somewhat and makes bay and grain.
