6A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL May 20, 2015 N EW B USINESS N EWS Barbershop brings 'old-school' to Sixth St. BY JON STINNETT The Cottage Grove Sentinel T he term “analog” holds a host of meanings in the world of science and technology, but it can often simply refer to devices that are not operated digitally. In the case of the Analog Barbershop on 6th Street in Cottage Grove, co-owner Traci Rich said the word refers to the throwback feel of her business and its Eugene predecessor, which she sums up in two words: old school. Rich’s brother, Don Rich, began leasing the building at 223 S. 6th St. about a year ago, and it most recently hosted Emerald Vapors, a shop that offered e-cigarettes, their liquids and other accessories. The An- alog Barbershop has been open for about a month with Traci Rich as stylist and man- ager, and she said business has been picking up lately. The décor at Analog bears out the "old- school" feel the Riches had fi rst brought to their Eugene location on Olive Street down- town, which keeps eight barbers busy. But here the atmosphere is more relaxed, and Traci Rich said that's the way she likes it. Classic vinyl album covers adorn the walls, and the albums themselves often fi ll the place with sound. Aluminum truck boxes serve as storage for each stylist, and cinder blocks and wooden shelving help complete photo by Jon Stinnett Jim Bales opened his shop in the former location of Oletsgo Automotive, a building he said he's admired for a long time. Jim's Automotive opens in classic building BY JON STINNETT The Cottage Grove Sentinel J photo by Jon Stinnett Traci Rich said business has been picking up at the Analog Barbershop over the past month. It's located at 223 S. 6th St. the look. Adult guests are treated to an adult beverage while they await their haircut, which is cheaper in the Cottage Grove shop than its Eugene counterpart. True to its analog roots, the barbershop is (at least for now) only taking cash. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sat- urday. Anytime Fitness making a move BY JON STINNETT The Cottage Grove Sentinel T he ability of Anytime Fit- ness members to have a similar experience when they visit any of the company’s gyms depends on a process of reinven- tion that’s mandated for each franchise every fi ve years. Ap- proaching the deadline for that reinvention, Kate Price, owner of Anytime Fitness in Cottage Grove, took it a step further. Price is currently working to remodel the former Blockbuster Video building at 1600 E. Main Street to serve as the gym's new location, a building shuttered since the rental giant closed its doors. She said the move from the Safeway shopping center — where Anytime was book- ended by two other businesses — will allow the fi tness center to maximize its available space. Plans for its new location in- clude more classroom spaces, free weights, restrooms and of- fi ces. Price said Anytime will also begin offering access to the pool at the Warren H. Daugh- erty Aquatic Center with some of its memberships, adding that the new location will also be more visible and offer more parking. She said her goal is to have Anytime Fitness moved to its new home by Sept. 1 of this year. Patton’s Country Gardens im Bales said that, true to its name, Jim’s Automotive is a “one-man operation,” and when that one man recently relocated to the Cottage Grove area, he naturally brought the operation with him. Bales is originally from Florence and has been compil- ing “a lot of years of experience” working on most types of light-duty cars and trucks. He’s also offered his expertise to customers in Salem and most recently Springfi eld, and Bales said many of his customers are following him all the way to Cottage Grove. “People are just driving right in,” he said. “I’m as busy as I can be. They follow me around.” Bales said he’s always liked the former location of Oletsgo Automotive, with its classic fi lling station feel, and when the chance to purchase the building at a decent price presented itself, it was “too good a deal to pass up.” “It felt like maybe it was just supposed to happen,” he said. “And man, has it been busy.” Jim’s Automotive is located at 409 S. 6th St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It can be reached by phone at 541-942-9305.
