The timber is light (small hemlock) and the land can be cleared of every stick and stump for less than thirty dollars ($30) a block. When so cleared it is comparatively level; only enough slope to secure good drainage. j We offer the first twenty (SO) blocks at the low price of sixty-five dollars $65 for inside, and eighty, dollars $80 for corner lots. 'JL'he fast mail train recently ordered by Postmaster General Wanaker, between New York and San Francisco, has made it3 initial trip between New York and San Francisco and arrived at the latter place on schedule time: Four days, 12 hours and 45 minutes. The distance be tween New York and San Francisoo, traversed by the train, is 3391 miles. This mtmber of miles divided by 103 hours and 45 minutes, reveals that tho train traveled at the rate of 30.S6 miles an hoar includ ing stoppages. It has been stated by papers that this is the fastest time ever made by a train across the continent. This is an erroneous statement. Tho Jarret and Palmer train, containing Lawrence Barrett and tho members of the Henry V. troupe left New York on June 1, 1876, and reached San Francisco on June 4. The exact time occupied, in crossing the continent was 83 hours, 30 minutes and 1G seconds. Thus it wilL be seen that the Jarret and Palmer train beat the fast mail train which arrived in San Francisco yesterday just 25 hours, 5 minntes and 44 seconds. Postmaster General John Wanamaker will have to bestir himself to beat, or even equal, tho time made across the American contin ent by those two enterprising theatrical managers in the year 1876. Have you taken a cold? You can cure it promptly with Ayer's Cherry Pectoral. The, safest remedy for I throat and lung troubles. An Extraordinary Wager. St. Paul, Minn., Nov. 2L Walter A, Bain, Percy S. Luke and James S. Luke, of Victoria, Australia, reached St. Paul last evening. They are on a tour of the world from Melbourne, n bet having been made by one Bryce, the reporter of a Victoria sporting paper, and a Ballaret banker, that the trip could not be made under certain conditions in eight months. They reached Tacoma on September 20th, and started acros3 tho continent on foot, following tho line of the North ern Pacific. The conditions of the bet are that every appliance may be used for traveling after reaching New York, but that the journey across North Am erica muBt be made on foot. The bet is for three thousand pounds, and the ped estrians are due at the Auckland club in Melbourne just eight months from the date of their departure. The travelers are in good health and aro confident of sucoeBs. Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria When Baby was sick, -we gaxe lr Castoria. To Exterminate Eels- At the last session of the Maryland legislature a bill was passed provid ing for the extermination of the eel in the Wycomico river, and the sum oE 5,000 was appropriated for the purpose. The state fish commission ers were instructed to expend this sum and report the result of their labors. Their work has been well done, but they say the nuisance has not been abated. The money waB ex pended in bounties, 2 cents being paid for each eel delivered to any of the six inspectors distributed along the river. The enormous number of 70,000 eels were captured and paid for, and Mr. Toadvine, one of the commissioners, says there are more eels in the Wyoomico river to-day than when he began his work of ex termination. They were anywhere in length from two feet to au inch. Ayer's Sarsaparilla. Its record of forty years i3 one of triumph over blood diseases.
